Eternal
Love
By Lisa, Jennifer, Carol, and Kenneth CarlsonReturn to TopWhen I look at the luminous moon
seemingly fixed in the sky, I am reminded about the rapid passage of
time. Many scenes of
previous moons play on the memory movie screen in my mind.
As time passes, many things change, and yet I still feel like the
same within myself. The
biggest change that I note in myself occurs in my perceptions of the
life going on around me. Things
previously very important become less so as new priorities come into
place. Events that once
seemed confusing and obscure begin to make sense and become relevant.
Other items become new worries that are more confusing than they
were when I was younger. As
a child, I believed that one could survive off the fields of flowers.
A feast fit for royalty could be prepared consisting of wild
onions, butter churned from buttercups, milk squeezed from milkweeds,
wild berries, and flower petals sweetened with honey suckle dew.
At night one could bed down among the flowers and clothes could
be woven from silken leaves. As
I grew, I learned that most foods must be bought from the grocery store,
clothes from department stores, and shelter must be found.
In truth, one could live off the land if one knew the skills of
our ancestors, but few in metropolitan and rural society possess such
skills. As we grow up, we
worry more and more and can become trapped in our fears such as earning
a living, providing for our daily needs, and determining the best
courses of action to take in our lives.
The sad thing is that when we become caught up in our fears, life
passes us by. With each new day, we have only the present and we lose this
present by focusing so much on our worries and concerns.
I read once that worry keeps us from achieving our fullest
potential. When we worry,
we are unable to use our minds for more productive uses.
Such reflections make me very thankful for our God.
We can pray to God and ask Him to help us to take care of our
needs and worries so that we can get on to other things.
The famous artists had to give their constant worries a pause in
order to produce their great works.
That must mean that Michaelangelo must have had to put his
personal worries on hold a lot as he painted the Sistine Chapel.
Focusing on our own worries also keeps us from loving others
because we are trapped in ourselves.
God has given us faith—the firm knowledge that God will make
sure we are taken care of. Even
when life seems a barren field, there is a priceless treasure hidden in
it. The worst thing that
can happen to us is that someday we will give up our life here on earth
and exchange it for a new life with God.
God has given us the chance to one day come to Heaven to be with
Him, where we can be totally immersed in his perfect love for us.
Isn’t this wonderful! Even
though we as Human Beings are imperfect, God continues to love us with
perfect love. When I think
about all this, I feel very warm inside.
God loves us. No
matter what happens. We
will always be loved—for eternity!
This is a true gift. And
if it were not for God’s dying on the cross for us, we would not have
the opportunity to one day be in Heaven with God.
I really like the Bible verse found in 1 John 4:18:
“We need have no fear of someone who loves us perfectly; his perfect love for us eliminates all dread of what he might do to us. If we are afraid, it is for fear of what he might do to us, and shows that we are not fully convinced that he really loves us.”Copyright © 2000 Lisa, Jennifer, Carol, and Kenneth Carlson
