  ASIM'S WEBWORLD: COLLEGE CENTRAL:
Welcome

Okay, so it's a Saturday morning. Your senior year. March is about to start. You stumble out of bed...no reason to get up early. But you keep thinking there is something really important that you are forgetting. Could it be? Oh no! You've missed a million deadlines for college applications, visiting days, financial aid, scholarships and all sorts of stuff!

Oh, wait, it's just a bad dream. Or, it should be if you've visited this site. I've tried to compile the largest...compilation...of dates and "To Dos" that a high school student could find on the web. You'll find guidelines and suggesstions about when to take the tests, how many times, where to apply, how to apply, and, well, how to pack.

Suggestive Sequence of Events

One of the challenging parts of getting into college is making sure that you did everything you needed to do. There are all sorts of tests, deadlines and other things that you need to keep up with. You shouldn't be bogging your mind down with trying to remember all these deadlines, especially your senior year. I've managed to find a calendar which suggests what you should have done by certain months. It's only suggestions, you should check with your counselor to be completely positive, but it's pretty complete. It follows through from junior year to senior year.

College: Selection

My decision as to what college I wanted to go to wavered a lot. I've always wanted to go to University of Michigan, but it seemed unlikely earlier in my junior year. That's when I started looking around elsewhere. It's good to narrow down as much as possible. Remember, you'll be spending about four years there and it'll always be branded as your "alma mater". I was kind of considering Boston U. but changed my mind because it just wasn't my type of school. I know some people who applied to six or seven colleges. I can't believe doing that because I'm a pretty decisive person, but you know, whatever floats your boat.

So obviously it's not a cut-n-dry, simple decision. It takes thought and you have to figure out where it is you want to go. The College Selection Section will help you decide what you want in a school and which ones measure up to your standards. Or you can just have fun comparing the colleges to see how the one you want to/are attending stacks up against others.

College: Applying

Okay, now for the actual act of applying to a college. Preparation is everything. Getting it done on time is essential. Face it: if you don't apply there, you're not going there. Seems logical.

Have questions before you begin? Frequently Asked Questions will clear your mind of thoughts that baffle many high school students.

Using the computer is getting more and more common as a means of applying. There are several methods of applying electronically. I compiled a list of several online services. Most of them are free.
