Swadhyaya is a non profit
organization headed by Rev. Pandurang Shastriji Athavale. Swadhyaya,
meaning self-study, is also where I go every Sunday to learn more
about myself. Not just culturally, but personally too. Swadhyaya
incorporates the culture and religion when generalizing issues
and topics but it can be applied to any

religion and/or culture.
Swadhyaya helps me grow spiritually and intellectually, something
that the regular day-to-day schools don’t do, and gives me spiritual
knowledge as opposed to bread-oriented knowledge. Swadhyaya is
also where I meet new people and learn to interact with them.
It also helps me make new friends and maintain strong relationships.
There are a lot of activities which are centered around the youth.
One of them is the annual camp held in the United States, but
invites Swadhyayees from all over the United States as well as
Canada. This is a youth camp for ages 14-24 and it lasts for

about 2-3 weeks. During
these couple of weeks youth get together and arrange cultural
activities, sports, shows, and discussion topics, which are then
supervised by adults. Last year’s (’98) camp was a great experience
for me since it was my first time going. I had never thought that
I would go, but
