This one-year course is designed for students who desire a more in-depth study of the use of the microcomputer in the business environment. Students will program spreadsheets and database as well as utilize sophisticated, real-world, current integrated software. Prerequisites for this course include Computer Business Applications II or computer science and Algebra II. This course will fulfill one of the elective credits required for graduation. COURSE GOALS
1 . To extend and refine skills in the use of a microcomputer in several applications areas.
2. To solve business-related problems by selecting the appropriate algorithms and applications, then programming the solution.
3. To become aware of the job opportunities and qualifications needed in the business sector.
4. To develop the ability to work under pressure, completing quality work in a predetermined time frame.
5. To develop organized and neat work habits and exhibit proper care of hardware and software.
6. To produce a variety of three-dimensional graphical displays incorporating information from a spreadsheet and a database.
7. To present a professional, quality document incorporating a variety of application software assembled by a desktop publishing package.
8. To recognize the ethical and societal implications and responsibilities of computer use.
9. To understand the importance of personal appearance, grooming, and good health in the business world.
10. To develop positive attitudes, motivation, and productive work habits. 11. To develop cooperation, responsibility, self-discipline, initiative, and other traits that are necessary in working with others. 12. To develop the skills necessary to cope with job-related conflict, stress, and discrimination.
