In the year 2025, Eric will be approximately 35 years old. The skills he
obtained throughout his education equipped him for his role as an adult
During elementary school Eric and his father remained in counseling
3 times weekly with a licensed psychologist. Through the use of medication
and behavior modification, Eric learned to exist in a regular ed. classroom.
His academics improved, and along with this came his self-esteem.
The special ed. teacher and the regular ed. teacher worked closely to make
sure that Eric stayed up with the rest of the class. When he had problems,
the special ed. teacher worked with him in his regular classroom.
Eric knew where his “time out’ room was, and he learned when to utilize
this area. As he gained further control of his own feelings and behaviors,
Eric did not need the “time out” room.
In Jr. High Eric was “A Level” monitor for Special Education ser vices. He
maintained his grades, and continued with weekly therapy sessions at the
psychologists office. During 9th grade, Eric became a mentor for other
students who had problems controlling their behavior in the classroom.
One period each day, he was a “counselor” for these students. This helped
him to realize how disruptive his own behavior had been, as well as how
he could give advice to his peers. This really boosted his self-confidence.
