During the General Council session which began on 17 September 2001 and will last until the end of the current month, the General Direction has decided to re-organize the sector of internal communications. The SX FLASH will be adopted as an instrument for informing the confreres quickly of Xaverian events (Assemblies, Professions, Ordinations, Deaths, other events and persons) and other important matters concerning ecclesial, political social and cultural life.
The SX FLASH should appear on a weekly basis and will carry the news items previously published in Commix.
On Sunday 7 October, a group of confreres took part in the Beatification of Mother Eugenia Picco, the third Superior General of the Piccole Figlie di Parma. The participation was a gesture of recognition towards the sisters for the care provided to our sick confreres in Parma and for their presence in Uvira and Bukavu. It was also a commemoration of the role played by our Founder, as Bishop of Parma, in the life of the Piccole Figlie precisely during the lifetime of the Blessed Eugenia.
Cardinal Darmaatmadja
of Jakarta, presently in Rome at the Synod of Bishops, spoke about the aftermath
of the terrorist attacks in USA during a meeting with the “Indonesian”
Xaverians: he assured our confreres that the Indonesian fundamentalists are a
small minority, even though they have been protesting strongly about the bombing
in Afghanistan.
Ethnic clashes in Bongor (Chad) have followed the killing of a Masa by a Gorane on 13 September. Two anti-riot squads from N’Djamena had to intervene because of the gravity of the situation: the police in Bongor had sided with the Gorane, the ethnic group to which almost all of the police personnel belongs. After ten days of curfew, the situation seems to be on the road back to normality.
After 18 years in Viale Vaticano (6 as Councilor and 12 as Superior General), Fr. Francesco Marini left Rome this morning, bound for the community of Carabanchel in Madrid, Spain. He will reside in that community whilst awaiting the visa that will allow him to return to Indonesia, his new destination. Cordialmente!

Becker and prof. I. Morali, both of the Gregorian University. The confreres of the Kansai Zone (Osaka) will get together on 3-4 Ocotber. The cycle of conferences (in Italian) will probably be made available to the confreres in booklet form.
