India was partitioned into India and Pakistan (East Pakistan, which at present is known as Bangladesh, and West Pakistan) on the basis of religion, Pakistan with Muslim majority and India with Hindu. Some parts of India (Diu, Daman and Goa) were under the Portugese rule which were later freed in 1961.
