Adults cannot survive indefinitely in the drains. Earlier rafting of the service road drains may have prevented  this casualty. June 1999.

This is part of the 1880 map of Stratton Park with the original pond. The location of the new Balancing Pond has been marked. Frogs and toads have been coming here for well over 100 years!
The 1000 signature petition is handed to Mid Beds District Council.November 1999.
Compare the 1880 map to this map, the same part of Stratton in 1997. Stratton Lodge has disappeared, but some of the tree lined hedge remains. Great Crested Newt, found in drain 1W. October 1999.
