Antarctica is the highest continent in the world with an estimated average altitude of 2300 metres. The tallest mountain is the Vinson Massif in the Sentinel Range, standing at 4897 metres above sea level.
Perhaps it
is surprising to find volcanoes in Antarctica, considering the general
association held by people of ice and snow conditions being totally opposite
to the heat and fire of volcanoes. Also the many volcanoes in the region
add to the average altitude of the land.
