Terrestrial Life

Unlike the Antarctic seas, the continent itself is incapable of supporting higher life forms. The only living things are found on the ice-free regions of Antarctica, and these are the mosses, lichens, algae and at most, insects. The terrestrial life may not be abundant, but they are definitely very tough and hardy, able to withstand the onslaught of the weather and also the animals’ trampling. They also add colour to the otherwise monotonous black and white of Antarctica, with some of their startling hues of blue, orange and green.
