I think it important that we have an area set aside for new posters to introduce themselves to those of us who have been posting to the board for awhile.

Please feel free to say (or not say) whatever you want about yourself and we'll try our best to make you feel welcome. That's a promise!!!

Actually, Claidhaim, while you were out we named you Chairman of the Welcoming Committee. Congratulations. Your duties include sending gift baskets to all of the new posters. We don't really have a budget for this function, so you'll need to have a few fundraisers. You know, car washes, raffles, etc. With that in mind, we've also named your Chairman of the Fundraising Committee. Again, congratulations!!!

Thank you, thank you, please take your seats....

I really don't know what to say, this is so.....unexpected. Now I know that if I don't post for a couple of days, I'll just garner more kudos.

As Chairman of the Welcoming Committee, I would just like to say that everyone is herby welcomed to the board, please obey the rules, (wait....there aren't any rules except do not belittle anyone's theories or beleifs, we will strike you down) and please add your email address to the thread entitled "email addresses".

Glad to have you, and enjoy yourselves.

But I thought that belittling others' theories or beliefs was the whole point of posting in the first place? ***sharpening knives***

I guess what it amounts to, is to do the belittling with a bit of class. Now, what's on the menu for today...

OK, newbies, please don't feel frightened by the sort of guys Jeff and Kay are. They mainly belittle themselves... ;-)))

A welcome from me, too. And don't fear to jump in with any theory or thought, however mad they might seem. Anyhow, weird theories are what hold this thing up. Even theories as weird as Jeff's. I mean, if HE can post whatever inadequate and worthless rubbish comes up in his mind, YOU can do the same!

Yes, I love you, Jeff. :-)

(And for all the now puzzled newbies: This is NOT serious. We just ARE that way. In truth, we are all quite friendly, even Jeff - but don't tell him that I said so, please...)

*** newbie peeps in carefully, looks from side to side, pulls head out fast after hearing a noise***

Uhm...

***newbie sticks head hesitantly back in again***

Ah...can I come in?

***newbie rushes in, then shrinks embarrasedly back into a corner, looks wistfully at all the discussion, not quite daring to join the merry conversation***

***newbie huddles in corner, hugs knees to chest, and looks on shoes***

***newbie suddenly stands upright, tears off ragged clothes, and humble-faced, frightful mask, and reveals himself as the super-hero named [LOOK AT THE FRIGGIN' AUTHENTICATION NUMBER!]***

YES, it's me, and I'm BACK!

OK, maybe I really didn't go anywhere in the first place, but since I did say good-bye in advance in the Farewell section, I thought I'd post this in the Welcome section - just for fun.

Thing is, I just got an answer from the Uni's sysadmin, and I got my account prolonged through all of summer, and considering how I'll be working all summer here, and all my friends have left for vacations, I guess I'll be spending a lot of time around. Now, let me hear THREE CHEERS!!!

***resounding, stunned silence***

Um...heh heh...OK, I know you are all struck dumb by joy, of course.

Well, while I'm here, I could just as well give a little introduction on a few of the regulars on the board, to any interested newbies. (not that I think there are any :P )

***pulls on tour guide cap***

OK, newbies, pay attention!

The guy here on the left, sitting on a pile of e-mail sent from all corners on the world, drawing
that nice heraldry, is _Ran_.
Take note of the way he always goes 'Hrm', with a profound Swedish accent. This is because of a chronically sore throat. And yes, Ran is a 'he'. Believeing that he is female because of the neutral nametag 'Ran', is of course perfectly understandable.

Moving along here, we see _Markus_. He is easily recognizable, since his head actually consists of nothing but the very two books we all know and love; aGoT and aCoK. We expect him to grow another book in a year or so. And if you have any aSoIaF questions to ask, why, Markus is the soul of courtesy. If you want to discuss something with him, though, it's good to be well prepared, for Markus does not suffer fools easily.

Up the hall there, where you see all them folks in shining armor, there is one jolly old knight standing tall over them. That is _Ser Gary_. A true knight, and the soul of chivalry.
He must be, of course, since I knighted him myself. He is lord of Smallbellybutton, has a sword called 'Bite-me!', and numerous other artifacts and titles which has been forgot in ancient times. He is fond of conversing with knights and ladies, but talks nicely to lowly commoners too.

Ah, over there, the jarhead coming stalking out of the Halls of Logic, is _Jeff_. Make especially note of his thick skin and salty tongue. Also, if you knock carefully on the back of his head, chances are that he will not sense it, since his head is very thick as well. Jeff is one jolly fellow. Make sure that you do not fall prey for his dreaded _sense of humor_.

Reclining on the heap of feminist literature over there, is _Emily_. Note the hapless converts she orders around, gazing at her adoringly. Also note the flag waving over her head. It's a slightly altered Union Jack, a great portrait of Germaine Greer glued onto it.
From time to time, she will reveal oraclic messages from the real world, usually conjured up from the strange abyss called _contemporary politics_. Mysogynists and male chauvinists are recommended to approach with caution.

Here, in a nice PVC suit, high-heeled boots, and carrying a cat o'nine tails, is _Min_.

*smacks head*

Sorry about that, I got a little carried away. I meant; the woman looking like a crossbreed between a German reporter and a highborn lady is _Min_.
She is a true lady. And very friendly towards newbies, something you all should take note of.

OK, trip is over. Certainly, there are many other regulars that are worthy of mention (one of them being the guy standing on a soap box, reciting flowery poetry - that was _haaruk_, by the way), but you will picture them out soon enough.

Have fun!

Kay-Arne - I'm so happy you're not leaving us!!!

My god, I actually meant it.

Welcome home!

Hah! You saps fell for that?? Obviously, Kay-Arne knew all along that he was not going anywhere and simply invented the "computer access" crisis in order to exact kind words from the rest of us. A foul trick to play on the rest of us, you scoundrel!

And if anyone attempts to knock on my skull, I promise to dislocate his or her elbow in all sorts of interesting directions. Uh, if I notice. :-)

Ah, Jeff, you truly hurt my feelings.

Er, actually, I'm a little flattered that you think me capable of such subtle duplicity - what hurts is that I told the truth - I _thought_ I was going to lose my account. Too bad that I couldn't pull this trick - and be _aware_ of it!

Hello all, I'm new to this board fresh from the Dragonstone board. What Dragonstone died??!! Sorry didn't notice at the time cause I had stopped looking - was disappointed in ACOK (Sorry all fans). Been reading some of the threads here and realized that it may be a better read the second time so giving it a second chance.

DISAPPOINTED in ACOK! Blasphemy! Kevin please read it again. I think it leaves a lot more mystery to it than AGOT. I will give you Dany's chapters were kind of lame. Welcome aboard!

Hi kevin, and welcome! You should definitely give it a second try. We always like critical words anyway. Except when they come from Jeff, of course.

Kay: This _really_ was priceless. You should be knighted "Lord of Good Humor"...
though I wish you could get the PVC suit and the cat-o'-nice-tails out of your mind... :-)))

I'm afraid that particular image is kind of stuck in my mind...

Oh well. Watching a couple of Norwegian sit-coms for a few hours should take care of _that_ problem. My brain should by then have shrunk into the size of a pea, and fallen out of my ear.
