This topic is dedicated to discussing GRRM's other works, from short stories to novels. What follows at first will be my moving disparate threads to this venue. So, it'll be a bit sequential, but it should be useable.

I've read 'Pear-Shaped Man'; found it in one of the very early Datlow/Windling yearly anthologies. It's quite creepy.

Son of Hot Pie.
I have now read Dying of the Light, Fevre Dream and Windhaven . And my favorite so far is easily Dying of the Light.
FD, had its moments and I agree that both Abner Marsh and Joshua York are memorable characters. But I just loved Dying a lot more .

Kli,
Dont you think that the vampires in Fevre Dream are a lot like the Others?

Greg _ I really wanna read it, what's your Email adress.
Kli - I don't think any of the stuff by Martin's I've read falls into the 'Hard SF' category. Martin never focuses on the science or has technical stories the way people like Isaac Asimov, vernor Vinge, or even Dan Simmons. Martin's writing Romantic SF, if you need to classify it.

By the way I love the WILD CARDS sequence. I think it is one of the most unique projects I've read - the POV of all the authors is really cool. And you'll learn to love some authors and to despise others. I wrote review of all the first 6 Wild Cards novels in Amazon, if anyone's interested.

The only novel by Martin I've read other than ASoIaF was Fevre Dream, which is REALLY great!!!

Rania: I don't think I wanna judge The Others until we've actually seen a bit more of them. :-)

Omer: You're right. Martin is more romantic SF than hard. I was thinking hard in terms of non-fantasy. Martin, like many other sf writers, is brilliant at the romance stuff (hence BEAUTY AND THE BEAST :-). I still love that one episode where GRRM was in front of the cameras for a cameo.

Well, I've struck gold at the used bookstore once again, having found the very first Wild Cards book! ::sighs happily:: It sounds very intriguing, and I'm looking forward to reading it.

GRRM appeared on TB&TB? When? as what?
Kristin - I'm sure you'll love it... or at least parts of it. Actually, in my humble opinion, Martin's story there, SHELL GAMES, is the only weak story of his I've ever read. It's really an average story, nothing more.

Greg - I will.
