In 1940, Ricky met and married Lucille McGillicuddy and they married at the Byram River Beagle Club in Conneticut.

LIFE AS A COUPLE:
On August 6, 1948 (the exact date Ricky gives in "The Fur Coat.") Lucy and Ricky moved into apartment 4A in a reconverted brownstone apartment at 623 East 68th Street in New York City. The landlords of the apartment were Fred and Ethel Mertz. The Ricardos and the Mertzes quickly became friends, and Ricky began his long engagement at the Tropicana club in downtown New York City. Lucy's dream is to be a famous actress so to try to realize her dream she constantly tries to get into Ricky's act at the club. And Ricky constantly tries to keep Lucy out of the act (but he rarely succeeds). In 1953, Lucy gave birth to Ricky Ricardo Jr. In 1955, Ricky got a movie deal so he took Lucy, Ricky Jr, Lucy's mother, Fred and Ethel with him to Hollywood. There, Lucy had many mishaps. On their first day in Hollywood, Lucy and the Mertzes went to the Brown Derby and Lucy acccidently tripped the waiter who was bringing William Holden's pie and it ended up all over his head. She also stole John Wayne's footprints from Graumen's Chinese Theater, and snuck into Richard Widmark's house. A few months later the Ricardos and Mertzes returned home and about a month later, they took off on yet another trip this time to Europe. Lucy got into more trouble there, she missed the boat, and the pilot boat, and had to get onto the boat by helicopter. Also on the boat Lucy got her head stuck in the port hole, but she did get to meet the queen, she also got arrested in Paris for counterfieting, and they got stuck in a avalanche in Switzerland. In Monaco, Lucy won 875,000 francs at the famous Monte Carlo Casino. On the way home to the U.S. Lucy snuck a 25 pound of cheddar cheese onto a plane, then she cut up the cheese and stashed it into all of Ricky's bandmember's instruments. In 1957, the Ricardos and Mertzes moved to Westport, Connecticut. Lucy got into more trouble, and Lucy and Ricky lived happily ever after.
