Main Players: Steve Martin, Michael Caine, Glenne Headly
Story: Two men, each trying to outwit the other to win a bet. Who will win?
Comment: I've seen this movie many many times, and I never fail to laugh each time. This is one of those movies that you keep coming back to, like a special place you visit when you want some cheering-up. The story's cute, the comedy ... well, bordering on the vulgar at times, but not too bad, and the editing; just right. Suffice to say, you won't notice the 1 hour 50 minutes this movie takes to amuse you.
Steve Martin is his usual self - irreverent, loud and thoroughly entertaining. Michael Caine is the "cultured" element here. He provides the perfect European-bourgeois contrast to Martin's working-class American, all in a French Riviera setting. Headly's performance is subdued, but you'll "get it" if you watch it for the second or third time.
Listen to the music, marvel at the scenery, laugh at the jokes and watch out for the delightful ending. If you ever feel down, watch this.
Conclusion: You may find some faults with this, but hey ... it's a comedy with Steve Martin.
