I am not exactly a comics freak but since I've had my contact with that
realm, too, I think I should have this section here, too.
LIAR!
Who am I trying to kid here? These pages are based around an
old format I had for the old homepages around '96, since then I seem to have admitted
my comics obsession to myself and should come out of the closet as it is.
So yes, comics buff at your service. In addition my language has become more "uncivil", and
some people might even blame it on comics. I just say it's the new me. ;)
If you want a hilarious(?) Finnish comic strip (currently only Finnish version available I'm afraid) along the attitude problem-lines of Transmetropolitan, Invisibles and Preacher, try Terslilja (=Steellily), the best goddamn cop around. To sum up the goings on in the comic (which goes on for 4-5 pages more, gotta get 'em up and translated SOME day), the Doc is inspecting Terslilja's latest victim, or arrested criminal, who resisted a little along the way, checking where each organ is this time, until he reaches the head and says "But was it absolutely necessary to dig out his eyes, too?" TL replies "Yes. I didn't like their colour at all."
Lame, but there you go. I think it's written and drawn by P.A. Manninen, who's also responsible for this
Captain Gangrene strip here. Original Finnish version is here.
If you're more into cartoons, you can try out Forgotten Cartoons section for starters, though there's a lot more on cartoon-related stuff on my site, too, just need to organize it better. :) More to come ASAP. One day. Eventually. Time on the Net is a luxury I don't have all the time.
Additions to the stuff way down below, just feel like listing things to annoy you I suppose
Preacher and Batman: Mad Love Quotes
More things I've read: Lucifer, The Minx, The Girl who would be Death, Azrael - Agent of the Bat #53 (Joker!) , Heartland (pointless if you don't know the background for her? I'm still not sure I do)
Batman: Killing Joke, Harley Quinn, Mad Love, The Last Arkham, The Cult, Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth (GO GET IT! Grant Morrison and Dave McKean are gods!) etc.
Judge Dredds, Judge Andersons, Lobo, Nemesis
Spiderman, X-Men, The Fantastic Four, Superman, Tarzan...
Moebius, Mezieres (Valerian-albums), Manara, Morbus Gravis...
And loads more I'm sure.
At the moment I am whirling somewhere enchanted by The Sandman. DC's Vertigo and Neil Gaiman really captured me there. I was introduced to this comic a bit late, early 1996, but ever since that I've loved it.
My friend Tero who introduced me to The Sandman has also lent me some other DC comics, including
Seekers into the Mystery, The Dreaming, Books of Magic, The Invisibles, Enigma, Hellblazer, The Eaters (?) plus others. All seem okay, even if they have not addicted me to them
like the Dreamlord did... :)
At the moment I own all the 10 Sandman albums and the 4(?) Invisibles albums I know have been published. I'm planning to get the 10th anniversary Sandman special as soon as possible and I bought The Invisibles otherwise whenever I could, just need to get the rest now.
When I was younger I bought every possible GIJoe and Transformers comic I could, because I had loved the animated cartoons. Just call me a nostalgic fool wasting
her money on rubbish. I'll understand. ;) You might also want to check out my Cobra- PR Division for more info on G.I.Joe/Cobra and their world, if that strikes a chord with you.
I've also read some M. Manara, Frank Miller, the Hernandez brothers (Birdland, anyway ;) , some Finnish comics, lotsa stuff I can't remember what it was, plus the comic strips in newspapers, etc.
Garfield, Calvin and Hobbes and Dilbert are my faves. :)
If you ask me who I identify with from comics I'd say my top choices from major comics are would be Garfield, Dogbert, Lucy and Marcy from Peanuts, possibly Snoopy, too. Someone once compared me to the Crab from Sherman's Lagoon, too. If I say Lord Morpheus it'll sound dreadful, but even that has happened at times. Another favorite from The Sandman is Thessaly/Larissa. My irreverent sense of humour and anti-social nature probably shows in the list of comics I like already, anyway, so screw this. *Sigh*
