Scorsese's "Bringing out the Dead"
is starting to get some promotion. Scorsese told USA TODAY.. It read's like
the a tourism brochure for New York city.. NOT.. "We've been shooting
mostly in the streets of New York at night for 75 nights, becoming part
of the street life and mayhem in - well, the old name for it was Hell's
Kitchen. Our police escorts would suddenly be called away to a gang war
on 54th and 11th Avenue. And at the same time there would be a slashing,
a knifing of some tourists two blocks away from us. And as the night progressed,
there would be some gunshots at one of the nightclubs. We are pretty much
trying to create the world that these people inhabit. It's almost hallucinatory.
You're not even sure if Cage's character is dreaming or it's real."
