HORROR: Wishmaster II - Evil Never Dies
REVIEWER: Shane Gavin
RATING: B+
REVIEW:
Take I dream of Jeanie and throw it on it's ear and give it an
attitude and you'll get to see Andrew Divoff hamming it up again as the
Djinn / Nathaniel Demerest. This time the Djin has been dislodged in a
scene much like the opening of NIKITA a bungled robbery a girl gets away
she manages to steal one relic which happens to fall from a statue that
has been shot at. You guessed it, the Djinn' s ruby thing..
The major reason these films succeed is because of the creative gore
effects. I mean, if you could wish something bad upon someone at the cost
of your soul you'd want them to go through something pretty awful. One of
the most memorable scenes occurs when a character tells wishes his lawyer
"Would go and #uck himelf". Well here is something I thought I
never see on the TV, the film is worth watching just to see the bizarre
way in which the lawyer performs this task. :)
The film is directed and written by Jack Sholder one of the uncredited
directors on the super flop SUPERNOVA. Sholder is best known for his films
"The Hidden" and "Alone in the Dark", but his veteran
status gives him deeper roots in horror, stretching back to the editor of
"The Burning" and director of "A Nightmare on Elms Street
Part 2". Recently he was behind the TV remake of "The Omen' but
don't hold that against him, the film is purely for eye candy and the
casino scene will surely make you flinch in some way.
Killer Creativity = B+
