Class 153 - the "new" cab
The new cab fitted to the former Class 155 inner end to form the Class 153 was controversial for a time, being boycotted by drivers. The reason was simple, the drivers considered the conditions to be too cramped. The driver's position was too close to the windscreen and therefore at risk to thrown stones and bricks from vandals on the lineside.
I never discovered what compromise was finally agreed with the drivers, but Class 153s operate singly most of the time now.
