Significance:  In honour of the city of Halifax, the badge incorporates the principle feature of the cities flag, a kingfisher.  The Kingfisher is holding the trident of Neptune who was considered in Greek mythology to be Lord of all the seas.

Namesake City: Halifax, Nova Scotia (provincial capital, population: 332,518)

Homeport: Halifax, Nova Scotia

Notes:  This ship is the second to bear the name Halifax.  The first was a corvette commissioned in 1941.  She spent time assigned to the Western Atlantic Escort Force and was paid off in 1945.
