On Wednesday morning, last week, a severe accident near Tebay to Js. Wildman, the breaksman of a goods train proceeding northward. Whilst stepping along the train, which was in motion, his foot slipped and he fell across the rails. The carriage from which he fell was the last in the train, and he would have been little hurt from the fall, but the train was immediately followed by an engine which had been assisting it up the incline, and before he had time to extricate himself, the engine passed over his right leg, which is nearly separated from his body. He was at once put in the guard's van and conveyed in it to Penrith. When he arrived there, Mr Hassell and other directors of the company were at the station, who gave directions for his removal to the infirmary at Carlisle, and having secured the attendance of Dr. Grieves, surgeon, of Penrith, who accompanied him, he was removed to Carlisle by the mid-day train. On reaching the infirmary, amputation was immediately performed, and we are glad to learn that the poor man is going on very favourably.
