A WOMAN KILLED ON
THE RAILWAY. From the WESTMORLAND GAZETTE 1 January, 1876 . An inquest was held at Burton on Monday, by MR.C.G.Thomson, coroner for Westmorland; touching the death of Isabella Hogg, aged 70 years, the wife of William Hogg, Shoemaker, of Holme, who met with her death at Burton and Holme Station on Friday night last. She had been to her daughter's, at Manchester and on arriving back she was crossing the line, when a luggage train came up and knocked her down just as she was getting on to the platform. She was picked up bleeding profusely and injured about the face and died before medical assistance arrived. The jury returned a verdict of "Accidentally Killed".
