A VIP,looking for the railway station with the cleanest and best presented buildings and top customer service found it at Carnforth. The station has been judged the best staffed station in British Rail's Preston area and now has an award to prove it. BR drew up a short list from the 23 stations in the area for County Coun Joe French, chairman of Lancashire's public transport sub-committee, to judge. After two days touring the area, he declared Carnforth the best with
Poulton-le-Fylde second and Settle third. Mr John Norman, BR's area manager, said Coun French's involvement was another example of the close co-operation between British Rail and Lancashire County Council. He congratulated all staff for their efforts to keep stations presentable and customers happy. Coun French presented the awards at Preston yesterday. (l7th).
