Birthday Celebrations The Connect bus service at Carnforth, celebrated its first
birthday on Friday Mar 28. Amongst the dignitaries attending the celebrations were Geraldine Smith MP, Councillor Jean Yates, Carnforth Mayor George Birkett and David Horton from the Countryside Agency, plus a host of other guests. The service has proved to be a huge success, not just with locals but other transport users from the rural areas. Since its launch twelve moths ago the services has just reached a total of
30,000 users. To celebrate the fact three passengers were awarded free travel on the Connect service for the next six months. They were Pam Willis-Smith, from Warton, Val and Alan Lewis from Carnforth. Alan said “ The service has been a real joy to us, we particularly like to travel to Kirkby Lonsdale and Milnthorpe where we can go for a walk and travel back without any fuss.” The travel office at Carnforth Station is open from 7am until 11pm, (10am – 8pm Sunday). Staff can arrange rail travel to anywhere in the UK. As an added bonus the Connect bus service will also deviate from its normal route to locations such as caravan parks and other local attractions. Richard Watts the project manager said “I am more than pleased at the way the service is operating, I am also very pleased with the level of service that the staff provide” Keep an eye open for some of the special travel offers that the service
has. Birthday Celebrations - Carnforth Journal April 2003
