YEARS of planning and waiting are
finally over with the formal launch of regeneration work on Carnforth station.
On Friday the regeneration work was finally launched with contracts between the
stationss trust company and Railtrack signed and handed over.
Special guests at the ceremony included Geraldine Smith MP and the Mayor of Lancaster,
Coun. Edna Jones.
Everything is now on track for Railtrack to start work on the platforms ramps, subways and
roof coverings. Contractors from the stations trust company will then move in to
begin work on refurbishing the station buildings. The work is just part of a major project
to revamp the station and return it to how it looked in 1945 when it was used to film
Brief Encounter.
Planners hope to create the new station by combining the best of the old with new
materials and design standards.
The final deadline for external and structural parts of the station to be finished is
March 31 next year.
