Mabel was a caring and loving person, who always tried to be in a goodmood in
spite of her (ALS) amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease).She
discovered that she had ALS in 1970, which eventually cost her the use ofher
hands. In order to continue her painting hobby and inspired by the book
"Joni", which was a true story about a woman handicapped in an accidentwho
painted with her teeth, in July 1979 Mabel started to paint by holding her
brush in her teeth. Her husband, Perry, helped her mix her paints.
