The manga

Some comment on this section:
As there is a section with info on the anime and the films, there must be one with info about the manga
The origin of Dragonquest is a videogame that was very popular in Japan. The scenario was written by Yuji Horii, the design of the characters was done by Akira Toriyama, and the musics were composed by Koichi Sugiyama. So, it isn't that wonderfull that it had a great success. The first manga based on the game was drawn by Akira Toriyama and also had a lot of success. I have found a very good website about it at Anipike:
DRAGON QUEST: ABEL YUUSHA

But Dragonquest, Dai no daiboken had much more success. Still based on the heroic fantasy environment of the video game, it tells as you know the adventures of Dai (which explains the name of the series: "Dai's big adventure = Dai no daiboken"). It was published weekly in the famous magazine "Jump" which also introduced Dragonball. The first volume of the series was published in 1989 in Japan by Shueisha Inc., Tokyo.
Scenario: Riku Sanjo
Design: Koji Inada
Supervision: Yuji Horii
The last volume appeared in 1998 in Japan.
In France (and other french speeking countries: Belgium, Canada,...) it is edited by J'ai lu. In Italy it's published by Star Comics.

After Dai no daiboken a third series started. It's called Dragonquest, the Emblem of Roto. I heard it is a good series too, but I don't know much about it. But you can find more info on the last series at this very good site:
Dragonquest, the Emblem of Roto
There is also info about the two other series.
