No one, including the Jewish people, should be surprised that the messiah came to suffer and die as an atonement for sin. There are many prophecies that tell us that the Messiah would die for the sins of the world. We are also told that He would be the messenger of the new covenant, and that He would actually be the new covenant. As the sin-bearer for all mankind, and the new covenant (see
), the Messiah would bring the old covenant (or the Laws of Moses) to a close. He became the blood sacrifice to forgive all sins so that God would remember them no more, and He was to be the fulfillment of prophecy.
The sacrifice of the Messiah provided peace between man and God, and allowed man to become justified before God. Everyone is born a sinner and guilty before God, but He gave us a gift of grace in the sacrifice of His only son, and only through Jesus can we find redemption from our sins. But we have a responsibility to accept this free gift and ask Jesus to come into our lives as our Lord (the one who takes control of our lives and leads us in all we do) and our Savior (the one who paid the ultimate price for our sins, so that we might be covered by His perfection in the eyes of God).
If you have not yet accepted God's free gift to you, through the death and resurrection of His son Jesus Christ, I would encourage you to click HERE to go to the 5 steps to salvation page. There you will find out just how easy it is to become a child of God, and to be born again into His family under the grace of His salvation.
You may want to print this page for later study. The importance of these fulfilled prophecies can not be over emphasized.
