Who Was Jesus?

The Bible foretold that the Messiah would be a descendant of King David's, among others in his bloodline. In fact, throughout the Old Testament, God makes it well known from whose line the Messiah would stem.

The Gospel's give us two accounts of Jesus' genealogy. Both Joseph and Mary's family lines are traced, and the book of Luke actually traces Jesus' genealogical record back through Adam (the first human being).

Prophecies -

Fulfillment - "A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham:" (Matthew 1:1)

Prophecies -

So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. Then he went to her, and the LORD enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son. The women said to Naomi: 'Praise be to the LORD, who this day has not left you without a kinsman-redeemer. May he become famous throughout Israel! He will renew your life and sustain you in your old age. For your daughter-in-law, who loves you and who is better to you than seven sons, has given him birth.'"

Then Naomi took the child, laid him in her lap and cared for him. The women living there said, 'Naomi has a son.' And they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David." (Ruth 4:12-17)

Fulfillment - "Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph,

The son of Heli, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melki, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph, the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai, the son of Maath,

(Luke 3:23-37)

Prophecies -

Fulfillment - "The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture does not say 'and to seeds,' meaning many people, but 'and to your seed,' meaning one person, who is Christ." (Galatians 3:16)

Even though Jesus was born into the correct bloodline and at the precise time that the prophets foretold, there is still a slim chance that His birth could have just been a coincidence.
