I decided to include this section purely for kicks. I have three videotapes full of music videos from the 1980s. Since my tiny town doesn't have MTV, I recorded most of these from Night Tracks and Nick Rocks. This collection totals 149 videos, not including many that are duplicated somewhere within the collection. Several of the videos would have been long forgotten by now if I hadn't recorded them for posterity!

I have included my own personal commentary on some of the videos, tidbits I find interesting, my reviews, or maybe pieces of the lyrics. So read on, have fun, and enjoy your musical trip back to the 80s!

Tape 1

"We Built This City" by Starship
"Money For Nothing" by Dire Straits - "Now look at them yo-yo's, that's the way you do it. You play the guitar on the MTV."
I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down" by Paul Young - One of those that I would have forgotten, but I now know most of the words. One of my favorites of the collection.
"Party All The Time" by Eddie Murphy - At the time he released this song, I had no clue he could even sing. To me, he was just the guy who played the "fart game" with his father.
"Billy Don't Lose That Number" by Phil Collins
"Fortress Around Your Heart" by Sting
"Head Over Heels" by Tears For Fears
"Dancin' In The Streets" by David Bowie and Mick Jagger
"Saving All My Love For You" by Whitney Houston
"Lonely Ol' Night" by John Cougar Mellencamp
"Oh Sheila" by Ready For The World
"Take On Me" by A-HA - Considered by many to be the best song of the 80s, the video is uniquely cool.
"How Will I Know?" by Whitney Houston
"I'm Your Man" by WHAM! - "If you're gonna do it, do it right, do it with me."
"Life In A Northern Town" by The Dream Academy - I don't know a single one of my friends who liked this song, but I loved it.
"How To Be A Millionaire" by ABC - Now I know what they meant when they said "I've seen the future. I can't afford it."
"Heaven" by Bryan Adams - In this video, he sings to an auditorium full of television sets.
"Russians" by Sting - Remember when everyone was obsessed with the fear of a nuclear war?
"Jack And Diane" by John Cougar - Didn't it sound better without the "Mellencamp" at the end? "Jack And Diane" is one of my favorite songs of all time!
"Perfect Way" by Scritti Politti - One of those "What ever happened to..." type things?
"Let Me Down Easy" by Roger Daltrey - Another one I would have forgotten
"Everything In My Heart" by Corey Hart
"Sara" by Starship - Look, there's Rebecca DeMornay!
"Silent Running" by Mike + The Mechanics - Another one of my favorite songs from the 80s.
"If You Leave" by Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark (OMD) - From the movie Pretty In Pink. "I touch you once, I touch you twice. I won't let go at any price."
"It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back)" by The Eurythmics
"Heaven Is A Place On Earth" by Belinda Carlisle
"Shake Your Love" by Debbie Gibson
"I Think We're Alone Now" by Tiffany
"Betcha Say That" by Miami Sound Machine
"Mercedes Boy" by Pebbles
"Alphabet St." by Prince
"Foolish Beat" by Debbie Gibson - I could never associate that title with a song. Come on, she said the words "foolish beat" what, once, in the whole song? But it was a good song to be depressed with.
"Wild Wild West" by The Escape Club - One of those "feel good but don't make much sense" songs that were popular in the 80s.
At the end of this tape, I found a song from 1992, "Achy Breaky Heart" by Billy Ray Cyrus. What on earth was I thinking??? LOL!

Tape 2

"What You Need" by INXS
"Train Of Thought" by A-HA
"King For A Day" by The Thompson Twins - I enjoyed this song so much, I even learned the harmonizing parts.
"Rock Me Amadeus" by Falco - What language was that anyway? I understood exactly 4 words in that particular version, "rock", "me", "Amadeus", and I think I heard the word "superstar" in there once. (Note: Yes, I know what language it was, I'm just being sarcastic...*g*)
"R.O.C.K. In The USA" by John Cougar Mellencamp
"Secret Lovers" by Atlantic Starr - "In the middle of makin' love, we notice the time." How many of you actually notice the time when you are making love? Don't email me with the answer, I really don't want to know!
"These Dreams" by Heart - I wish my dreams would make me that kind of money!
"Manic Monday" by the Bangles - And speaking of dreams, I thought the song would sound better if it said "Six o'clock already I was just in the middle of a dream. I was kissing Tom Cruise by a crystal blue Italian stream."
"Your Love" by The Outfield - "I just wanna use your love tonight." A little tip, guys, this line will probably get you nowhere.
"Wild Boys" by Duran Duran - This is an awesome video, but when I was a kid, it scared me! Some really strange stuff here!
"So Far Away" by Dire Straits
"Every Breath You Take" by The Police - This song reminds me of the little troll in the movie "Cat's Eye."
"Like A Virgin" by Madonna - I wonder what it would take to make her feel like a virgin now? (shudder)
"I Can't Wait" by Stevie Nicks
"Loverboy" by Billy Ocean - This video features some really way out creatures!
"Panama" by Van Halen
"Kyrie" by Mr. Mister
"Sanctify Yourself" by Simple Minds
"Let Me Be The One" by Five Star - Who?
"Face The Face" by Pete Townshend - What?

"You Give Good Love" by Whitney Houston
"Day By Day" by The Hooters
"What Have You Done For Me Lately?" by Janet Jackson
"Revolution" by The Thompson Twins - A remake of the Beatles' song.

"I Think It's Love" by Jermaine Jackson
"I Can't Wait" by Nu Shooz
"No One Is To Blame" by Howard Jones - I know every word to this song and I love it. "You can look at the menu but you just can't eat. You can feel the cushion but you can't have a seat." Isn't that the way things always go?
"All You Can Eat" by The Fat Boys - I don't believe I even have this one!
"Tarzan Boy" by Baltimora - One hit wonder, but hey, it's a good song!
"Who's Johnny?" by El DeBarge
"Move Away" by Culture Club
"Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin)" by Scritti Politti - They sure are creative, aren't they?
"Crush On You" by The Jets - How many kids were in that family, anyway?
"Nasty" by Janet Jackson - Paula Abdul is in this video. She's one of the girls sitting in the theater.
"Sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel - "I wanna be your sledgehammer." I might think twice before dating a guy who said that to me. But I love this video!!
"Twist And Shout" by Rodney Dangerfield - From Back to School. A truly funny man, but he can't carry a tune in a 5 gallon bucket! Still a fun song!
"Invisible Touch" by Genesis - I like this video because the band has so much fun in it!
"Underground" by David Bowie - From the movie Labrynth.
"Pee Wee's Dance Theme" by Joeski Love - An early rap song with a synthesizer pounding out the tune to "Tequila" in the background. Shows clips from Pee Wee's Big Adventure.
"Dreams" by the Blue Angels - The song was actually Van Halen, but the video was the Blue Angels flight team.

Tape 3

"There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry)" by Billy Ocean - A song written about other songs. Interesting.
"The Edge Of Heaven" by WHAM! - The last song before the guys broke up. Whatever happened to Andrew anyway?

"Heaven In Your Eyes" by Loverboy
"West End Girls" by Pet Shop Boys
"Yankee Rose" by David Lee Roth - I LOVE the first part of this video, before the song actually starts. "My doctor says I have to take a laxative!" "Not in my store you don't!" "Give me a bottle of anything...and a glazed doughnut...TO GO!"
"Glory Of Love" by Peter Cetera - If I knew him personally, I'd call him "Et." Get it? "Et Cetera...etc." Okay, I'll stop.
"Sweet Freedom" by Michael McDonald
"Papa Don't Preach" by Madonna
"On The Dark Side" by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band - I love this song, and the movie, Eddie and the Cruisers.
"Stuck With You" by Huey Lewis and the News - My favorite part of the video is the little canoe named "Myott"
"We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off" by Jermaine Stewart - A good message, but I don't think one guy has ever said that to me and really MEANT it!
"Dancing In The Dark" by Bruce Springsteen - Courtney Cox (Monica on Friends), as most of you know, was the girl who got pulled up on the stage to dance at the end of the video.
"Venus" by Bananarama - Another one of my favorite songs of the 80s!
"Press" by Paul McCartney - I never understood the line "Oklahoma was never like this..." Never like what?

"Take My Breath Away" by Berlin - Two-tone hair!

"Walk Like A Man" by The Pointer Sisters - From the movie Walk Like A Man. The video has Howie Mandel dressed like a woman and Ted Danson (dressed like himself.)
"I Didn't Mean To Turn You On" by Robert Palmer - Don't worry, Robert, you didn't. Kind of a cruel song. "I was only trying to be nice." Hey, don?t bother! LOL!
"Higher Love" by Steve Winwood
"Another Lover" by Prince
"Out Of Bounds" by Stewart Copeland and Adam Ant - From the movie "Out Of Bounds" with Anthony Michael Hall. What happened to him after that? (Wanna find out? "Take It Easy" by Andy Taylor
"I Wanna Be A Cowboy" by Boys Don't Cry - Well, he's wearing his cowboy hat in the bathtub, I'd say he's well on his way. Lose the cigar, though.
"Point Of No Return" by Nu Shooz - Featured lots of shoes that went places without feet in them. Remember losing one shoe as a child and your mom saying "Well, it didn't grow feet and walk off by itself!!" Maybe it did, mom.
"I'm Your Man" by Barry Manilow - I had a Barry Manilow song? Actually, it was an upbeat song with a semi-humorous video.

"You Got It All" by The Jets
"Hip To Be Square" by Huey Lewis and the News

"Don't Worry, Be Happy" by Bobby McFerren - We all had fun with this song, that is until the five millionth time we heard it!! But the video featured Robin Williams who can always make me laugh!
"Red Red Wine" by UB40 - Fun song. "I was wrong, now I find just one thing makes me forget. Red red wine." Maybe one of those 12 step groups would help!
