Spider-Woman I/Julia Carpenter
Julia was the second woman to call herself Spider-Woman, first appearing in that guise during the Secret Wars. After returning to earth Julia joined Freedom Force, a government-sponsored team that was composed mainly of former mutant villains. Realizing that she didn't belong there, Julia joined the Avengers West Coast and later Force Works. A steady, strong woman, Julia retired from superheroing in order to better raise her daughter. Julia was kidnapped by the evil Spider-Woman, who stole her powers. In the wake of this, Julia has given Mattie support and advice but will no doubt return to her daughter soon.

Spider-Woman II/Jessica Drew
The original Spider-Woman, Jessica possessed bio-electric blasts and pheromones, amongst other powers. Jessica fought crime for several years until she apparently lost her abilities in battle with Morgan Le Fay. Some of her abilities returned eventually and she set up a private detective agency based out of Madripoor. Unfortunately for her, the evil Spider-Woman kidnapped her at the behest of Dr. Octopus and Jessica's powers were siphoned away. In the way of this affair, Jessica has continued to remain at Madame Web's side, aiding Mattie.

Spider-Woman III/Charlotte Witter
Charlotte Witter was a famous fashion designer until she was hideously mutated by Dr. Octopus. This Spider-Woman kidnapped both Julia Carpenter and Jessica Drew, stealing their powers in the process. She also gained revenge on those who had slighted her in the past. Charlotte eventually possessed all the powers of all the various Spider-Women, though she seemingly lost all of them when Mattie re-absorbed her own powers. It remains to be seen whether or not Charlotte will return to battle Mattie in the future.

Spider-Woman IV/Martha Franklin
When Norman Osborn needed five people to take part in the mystical called the Gathering of the Five, Mattie snuck into the ceremony in her father's place. Gutsy and somewhat reckless, Mattie managed to survive the deadly ceremony and in the process received the gift of 'absolute power.' For a time she operated as Spider-Man when the web-slinger gave up the name and costume, but she's now struck out on her own as the all-new Spider-Man! Mattie possesses all the powers of the Spider-Women who have come before her, including super-strength, agility, bio-venom blasts, flight, pheromones and 'psychic spider-legs' (though most of these powers have yet to be used by Mattie). Mattie is still trying to find her own style as a hero. She is aided in her adventures by Madame Web and the previous heroines known as Spider-Woman, Jessica Drew and Julia Carpenter. Mattie's father has recently learned of his daughter's secret identity and most assuredly does not approve -- but he also knows that he can do nothing to stop her. Mattie has run away from home twice and currently lives with her Aunt Marla and Jonah Jameson.
