RICHARD DUNNING4,(John3, Benj2, Theop1), b. 1710, bapt. Oct. 4,
    1713, with twin bro. John; m. in Wilton, Aug. 8, 1733 Abigail Betts;
    he lived in Wilton and left an estate valued at �2000, letters of
    administration taken out June 29, 1797; in his will of 1797, he willed to
    heirs of his sons, Elias and Thaddeus, children of his dau. Abigail,
    and to a wife Deborah (perhaps 2nd wife); he d. 1797 and left issue as
    follows:
  1. Elias. Capt. in the 5th Co., of the 13th Conn. Militia in the Revolution;
        he, is buried in Woodbury and the town records contain his will; he d.
        before his father, Richard, the latter heiring to his children:
      i. Elias.
     ii. Edmond.
    iii. Leman, Capt. in the War of 1812; lived in New Haven,
            Conn.; on a voyage from Maine he was taken sick and
            died of cholera in Portland, Me.; his wife was Mary
            Osborn of Southey, Conn.; issue as follows:
         a. (Rev.) Edward Osborn, m. Catherine (adopted dau. of
            John Adams).
         b. Antoinette, m. Hon. James Donaghe (of Virginia and
            later collector of the Port of New Haven and a State
            Senator).

MATTHEW W DUNNING4 (John3, Benj2, Theop1), b. 1714; m. in Wilton,
    Dec. 9, 1742 Abigail Patchen (d. 1790, ae. 70); called "Deacon
    Matthew". in 1791 he, with 14 others, petitioned Williamstown, Mass.,
    for a Baptist church; his estate was probated in 1807; in his will he
    mentions a wife, Mary (probably his 2d wife), and a son Matthew;
    monuments in S. Williamstown, Mass., opposite a church, formerly
    a Baptist church; issue as follows:
  1. Matthew, was in expedition against Crown Point and Ticonderoga in
    1775; later was at Battle of Bennington, 1777, and marched
    on alarm at Saratoga in 1781; he made a deed after 1832;

    1776, widow, Hannah (Morehouse) Rowland of Fairfield Co., Conn.
    (b. 1740; d. Apr. 29, 1813); moved from Fairfield Co., Ct., about 1770,
    with 6 sons, to Saratoga Co., N. Y., settled first at Stillwater on the
    Hudson river, later founded the hamlet "Dunning Street" in Malta,
    N. Y., where there is today a large Presbyterian church and a cemetery
    containing graves of 37 Dunnings; d. Nov. 29, 1813, ae. 87; buried in
    "Dunning Street" cemetery; issue as follows;

    Jamaica, L. I.; was a witness, May 20, 1714, to a deed made by John Foster
    to John Messinger in Jamaica; was a shoemaker by trade and was of the
    party which founded Goshen, Orange Co., N. Y., in 1719; sheriff of Orange
    Co., 1738-39; had 4 sons, as follows:
    I. Jacob, m. Keturah Conkling; d. 1770.
   II. Samuel (Note. In 1910, Mrs. Smith received records from a
        grandson of a Jacob Dunning, b. 1782, whose eldest dau. married
        in Goshen, N. Y.; Jacob, b. 1782, was the youngest son of a
        Samuel H., who lived to be 104,--- probably a son or a grandson
        of Michael of Goshen.)
