JOHN DUNNING3 (Benj2, Theop1), m. about 1709 Sarah Lambert, dau. of Jesse and Deborah Lambert of Milford, Conn. She was born about 1693. Her Mother, Deborah (Fowler) Lambert, was a granddaughter of Wm. Fowler who came to American with Gov. Eaton and John Davenport in 1637, went with them to New Haven in 1638, and in 1639 became one of the trustees of Milford,---the only one bearing the honorable prefix of "Mr.". Jesse Lambert, the father of Sarah was an English officer previous to his coming to America in 1680, and was from a collateral branch of the Earl of Cavan's family, if such being a descendant of William the Conquorer. John Dunning moved to Norwalk, Ct., before Apr. 9, 1717, when he bought land giving the latter place as his residence. He died there Jan 1, 1734. His will was dated Dec. 22, 1733 and proved Feb. 11, 1734. In it he divides his estate into 15 parts, and gives each of his 6 sons 2 parts and each of his 3 daughters 1 part. He makes his wife and b rother Benjamin of Newton, his executors. The inventory made Apr. 8, 1734, consists of a long list of household goods, a house and barn and a home lot valued at �140; 3 acres with building and orchard, �280; 1-1/2 acres to take up �3; 1/2 acre east of t he river, �2; 6 acres west of Buckingham's Ridge �33; 7 acres north of Mr. Lambert's home lot , �50; right of commonage, �6 (Fairfield Co., Probate Records, Lib. 1716-36, pp. 262-318); his family was as follows:
