To fully appreciate being adopted
It is often necessary to be reunited
With the mother who gave you up.

To recognize how truly blessed you are
It is often necessary to visit and imagine
The place where you might have been.

Lurking behind the veil of secrecy
Lies the reality of your genetic identity
Often times, it isn't very pretty.

Knowing is better than not knowing
But truth is somehow less appealing
When it pales in comparison to fantasy.
