Vision of Escaflowne is about a girl named Hitomi Kanzaki who is transported into a world of mystery and war, named Gaea. She meets many characters and lives through what could be the destruction of the planet she is on.
Hitomi Kanzaki is a 15 year old girl who has the power to see the future and to do tarot card readings. She also falls for a guy named Amano in the beginning of the show. She has a pendent that her grandmother has, and says that if she can run the 100 meter dash in 13 swings of her pendent (13 seconds), he would give her her first kiss. During which time she meets a mysterious boy who takes her to Gaea...
Van Slanzer de Fanel is the new king of his country, Fanelia.Now king of Fanelia, he is the only one capable to pilot the Escaflowne, a legendary guymelif with loads of power. He meets Hitomi in her world while fighting a dragon for his energist. He is very cocky in the beginning but comes around after meeting Hitomi.
A cat-girl who was adopted by Van when they were both little. She loves Van very much and is very jealous of Hitomi. She is very energetic.
Allen Shazar is a knight of Austuria, and pilot of the gumelif, Scherazade. He is almost identical to Amano, in looks and personality. Hitomi falls in love with him at first sight because of this.
Amano is Hitomi's coach and crush. He looks just like Allen. Yukari is in love with Amano as well.
Yukari is Hitomi's best friend. She is also her track and field manager. She is energetic and like Amano alot.
Millerna is a princess of Asturia. She falls in love with Allen. She is very proper and when we first see her, she is snobby. She wants to become a doctor.
Dillandau is one of the dragonslayers. He is in love with destruction and fire, and never listens to his boss's orders.
Folken is Van's brothr and worker of Zaibach. He is Dillandau's boss.
