Today after a last morning ride you will transfer by light aircraft to perhaps the most famous wildlife region in Botswana: Chief's Island in the Moremi Game Reserve in the heart of the Delta. Renowned for its fabulous game viewing, especially predators, the area has been the subject of many important and award-winning wildlife documentaries on BBC, National Geographic, and the Discovery Channel, as well as scientific studies and glossy coffee table publications with particular regard to wild dog. Bird life is prolific with waterfowl and waders being particularly common. Here you will have exceptional opportunities to view and photograph the tremendous wildlife that abounds in this area. You will be at Mombo, a legendary camp for four nights. In addition to spectacular game viewing, you will also have top wildlife guides, excellent cuisine and accommodation. Like all the Wilderness camps, the tents are large and spacious with excellent beds and all the comforts you could want in wildest Africa. Mombo is particularly known for its wild dog population, which are regularly seen - often chasing their prey through camp.

The swimming lions of Mombo. Understand the topography, the seasonal rains, and the rushing head waters into the Okavango Delta and you will realize the unique ability and need of these lions to swim. People we met from Germany, who have been to Africa 25 times, had only seen lions in the water on one other occasion. A special experience for us all.

The game was abundant in Mombo, so much so that you didn't have to work to see the animals. The area, having been very protected from poaching in the past 20 years, have allowed the animals to become trusting of us humans in our noisy Land Cruisers. They really didn't exhibit the nervousness that you might see in other wilderness areas that are not protected from poaching.
