Don't be afraid to ask, "Is that the best rate?" when making your own hotel reservations. Sometimes when you call a hotel directly, you can haggle price! Always check the prices of hotels in surrounding areas to compare, and mention the other price to see if you can get a better rate. If you don't have a lot of time to shop, let a travel agency shop for you! Be very specific with any special needs or requests you may have, so that either the hotel or travel agency can provide the best service possible. Also, if you want a room with a view, let them know that! They have the ability to note that on your request, i.e., handicap rooms, traveling with small children or animals. Before your trip, especially if its for pleasure, check out the different points of interest of your travel destination on the internet.
