| Stemming from obscure origins, la Tomatina, a festival of tomatoes held annually the last Wednesday in August in Buñol, Spain, involves a
crowd of tens of thousands stomping around in four dump-truckloads of tomatoes
and pelting others with the resultant pulpy mess. We saw a story about it in a magazine accompanied by a photo that depicted a mass of humanity swimming in a streetlong puddle
of marinara. It convinced us: There is no choice -- we must go to Spain.
Over
the course of the following year, Mike Fuentes, his sister Claudia, Jeff McMillan
and Eric Walter, all of Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, planned a whirlwind tour of eastern and southern Spain contingent
on their being in Buñol, the site of la Tomatina, on Wednesday, August 25, 1999.

we saw and did while getting suntanned and irresponsible in Spain.
