11/2/97 Went to the Air Force-Hawaii football game last night, so missed most of the action at the clubhouse. Went I got there, Les and Timmy were playing Age of Empires and Jason was trying out Dark Reign. Lance was watching Cliff trying to figure out why his computer kept locking up. And Harold apparently had gotten there not too long before me..
10/30/97 The release of StarCraft is slowly drawing near. Blizzard will probably be starting its beta test on Battle Net within the next few weeks. 10/27/97 Shlonglor has shut down his WAR2 and other gaming pages. What happened is that he got a job in the gaming industry and leaving up his gaming pages would be a conflict of interest. There's still the chance that he may allow someone else to host his old pages.
10/25/97 Missed the action at the clubhouse this Saturday since I was watching the Rainbows play San Diego State at Aloha Stadium.
Since we missed the action, me and Harold decided to play team pickup games on Kali in the early morn. We played Nowhere To Run. Then we tried to play Tourney, but Harold forgot to set the pud and we wound up playing the default. In this one, somebody beat me into the game and I wound up playing against Harold.
Then we actually played Tourney for real. Since I figured our opponents weren't familiar with the pud, I decided to take the sea. I took two of the three oil spots in the river and figured I would be able to hit and run since they couldn't transport over. Big mistake. I took my time going for my second gold mine and forgot that they had oil in the puddle on their side of the river. The opponent transported and built numerous towers at my second gold mine and took it over. At that point, I had mostly sea units and no gold left to fight back. The guy's partner dropped, but me and Harold were unable to stop him and he took us both out, (though I killed all their sea stuff.)
Harold went to sleep, but I figured I'd play another game. It was a 8 player Friends game.
10/24/97 The HHSAA site has been corrected. The state volleyball tournament is being sponsored by the BIIF and will be held at the Hilo Civic Auditorium. WARNING! The word is that Bev is holding Amway meetings Thursday nights. If you plan to stop by the Clubhouse Thursday nights, proceed with extreme caution. CyberClub will not be responsible for any spirited activity that may occur at that time. You have been warned. 10/23/97 Here are the final regular season ILH Volleyball Standings. The state tournament will be held November 13-15, but I'm not sure where. One place on the HHSAA site, it says the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium on the Big Island. Check out the listing at members.tripod.com/~kulasoft. 10/20/97 Age of Empires vs. Warcraft II Here's my opinion comparing Age of Empires to Warcraft II. In some respects, Age of Empires is like an advanced version of Warcraft. More units, more upgrades, more lifelike graphics and animation, more team options. However, I still prefer playing Warcraft II. Here's why. 1) My computer is little too slow to play AOE easily. The screen scrolls too slowly when I try to see what's happening in other areas of the map. It reminds me of when I used to play War2 on a 486-33. 2) The units are too small (especially on a small screen at 800x600 resolution. You have to squint your eyes to find where they are to click on them. Plus sometimes after you finish building a structure, the worker is hidden behind the building and you can't figure out where he went. It helps a little if you set your res to 640x480 and have a large sharp monitor. 3) Not as cool sounds. No zug-zugs here. 4) Not as funny. War2 is more like a cartoon, whereas AOE looks more like a historic movie. In looking over my reasoning, it looks like half of the reasons I prefer War2 is because my computer sucks. :) 10/18/97 No swap meet today. Dennis said he couldn't get the place. Alan and Mike vs. Jason and Jason (Friends - High) Alan and Jason sneak out of the house saying they are going to play basketball. We're at bottom. We stop their chopping to upper left. We chop to bottom left mine and Alan mines there. We take the 3:00 mine and fight off Jason's death knights. They try to chop to top right but we catch them in time. Then it's mage and sapper time! Me and Timmy go to play volleyball at Manoa gym. No sign of Libert and Roy. JasonL vs. Cliff, Lance, and Les (Age of Empires) Jason kills off Les while they are learning the game. But Lance starts to catch on and nails Jason, while Cliff mops up with cats. Lance, Timmy, Harold vs. Cliff, Les, Mike (6PAll41) Cliff switches teams because the monitor's too big. Cliff sappers to mine first, but Harold's defense and Timmy's invasions stops any miners. Lance and Timmy invade, killing peons. Harold protects and mines the middle. Mike long-distance d&d's the middle, but his computer locks up. It's all downhill for us after that. Game of the Week: that Japanese SNES Dodgeball game Harold vs. Mike (Kali) Since we didn't hear any rocks hitting the window, we go home "early". Then me and Harold go on Kali and play Tetrinet and a couple of games of WAR2. The last game, KPUD Cold War, probably took about 3 hours - lots of gold. 10/15/97 Lava has a Kali server. I'm not sure, but it might be that they just renamed the old Kali Hawaii server. Anyway it had the best ping times and me and Harold played a couple of games (X marks the spot and Kpdecisn) on it early this morning. 10/13/97 The DudeLove97 page has added audio. You have to wait a while to hear it though. Watch the counter hits fly now! 10/11/97 Raynelle picks up Lance as I return from the Fresno State-Hawaii football game (upset! - the game, not Raynelle) Timmy, Jason, Libert (Age of Empires) Libert starts learning how to play with some coaching from Mike. Jason helps Libert by giving him resources. But Timmy makes too much hoplites and horse guys. Harold keeps getting errors trying to install Age of Empires, so we start a game of WAR2 instead. Libert, Harold, Mike (some water pud with 3 islands -- ok, it was Raiders) Harold and Mike think we're going to play dup, but Libert slyly changes the pud in the last minute. Libert controls the sea, not allowing Mike to get any oil to build ships, by staying out of range of Mike's death and decay, but in range to kill his oil rigs. Mike has to use hasted, blood-lusted dragons to get some action and eventually Libert's destroyers go down. Mike's dragons aren't strong enough to take out Libert's island, so he stays on his island and begins cleaning up. Harold invades Libert's island with peons, but they go down to towers. Libert tries to invade Harold's island with a death knight, but Timmy accidentally dislodges Libert's monitor cable causing his computer screen to go blank and Harold kills off the transport. Libert yells "cheat", but too bad, it's a draw game. Timmy, Jason (Age of Empires) I don't know who won, but they were making a lot of noise. 10/6/97 Mike vs. Timmy (Age of Empires trial version) Mike finds and attacks Timmy's dock. But Timmy fights him off. Timmy destroys Mike's dock, but doesn't find his other dock. Mike sends waves of scout ships and eventually takes Timmy off the sea. Timmy builds up and invades with Hoplites, but Mike's priests convert some of them while attacking. Mike builds up his own Hoplites and attacks, but Timmy converts a couple and fights them off. Mike's invasion is cut short when he sees a tower. While all this was going on, Timmy has taken control of the artifacts and holds them for the required time for the victory. Maybe by the next time, Mike will learn how artifacts work. 10/4/97 Roy is selling crack seed! Stay tuned. Libert and Mike vs. Jason and Timmy vs. Cliff and Harold (KPUD friends on sea). Timmy and Jason take out Libert's ships then invade Libert and Mike's island. After being finished off, Libert and Mike go to buy tacos. Eventually Timmy and Jason overcome Cliff and Harold. Libert, Mike, and Harold vs. Timmy, Jason, and Cliff (KPUD teams of 3). Timmy's team invades early, but is fought off. Mike's team builds tower defense. Timmy grabs the middle mine, but Libert kills his town hall. Jason, Cliff, and Mike mine their corner mines, but Harold gets killed off mining top right. Libert's gold trickles out and Timmy and Jason's multiple invasions finally succeed. Capria (Harold) edges Sample (Libert) in Super Tennis 7-6 in the tiebreaker. 10/3/97 The HBA Eagles travelled to noisy St. Andrew's gym to take on the Academy of Pacific. It was a closely contested match, but HBA finally pulled away at the end of each game to win 15-11, 15-10 for their third victory of the season. AOP might have lost the volleyball game, but they definitely won the contest for the noisiest fans. Next up, University High on Saturday. In the first match, the HBA girls earned their first victory of the season by defeating St. Andrews in three sets. 10/3/97 Hey, hey, hey! The Age of Empires trial version is out. It's 23 MB and only took me about 5 hours to download. Not sure exactly how long it took cause I started up the download, then went to bed. The only problem is that it requires DirectX 5.0, so now I gotta download that too. 10/2/97 It has been so proclaimed by the Queen. We're scabs! Everybody who goes to CyberClub is a scab! Just call us CyberScabs! Then again the Queen never paid anything either. That must make her the Scab Queen! (Note: no actual names are being used. We wouldn't stoop that low :) 10/1/97 The HBA Eagles volleyball squad defeated Mid-Pac in two straight sets for their second victory of the season. They will try for number three against the Academy of the Pacific Friday night. 9/27/97 Jason and Mike vs. Lance and Cliff (battle royal ffa) - Jason betrays Mike and runs down his peon. Jason and Lance kill off Cliff, then Jason kills Lance Jason, Mike, Lance, Cliff (battle royal ffa with computers, high) - Lance barracks rushes Mike, who was busy killing computer peons and takes him out of the game early (except for one runaway grunt). Cliff walls off what he thought was Jason's town, but was actually a computer town. Jason eventually kills off a weakened Lance JasonH, AlanH vs. Lance, Les, JasonL, Cliff (shipmates) - I was at the Iolani-Kamehameha football game, but I heard that JasonH and AlanH killed off Lance early. Then they were on their way to victory except that they had to go home. Libert, Mike, Harold vs. Timmy and Jason (3vs2) - after a couple of aborted games, we finally get a good game going. Libert cuts to middle mine early. Harold blasts to the right mine. Mike cuts and blasts to left mine. Jason and Timmy blizzards gold miners. Mike sneak attacks Timmy's wood boys. Timmy gets mad and invades Mike's town destroying his fortress and later Libert's castle. Harold keeps milking mines despite being almost asleep. After some prolonged mage battles and insult trading, Libert launches a full-scale Paladin assault. Harold brings in his gryphons (he only uses humans) and it's finally over as the sun comes up. Libert finally got Windows 95 installed on his computer. The only problem that it restarts Win95 when you try to shutdown. Where's the technical support when you need it? Cliff and Mike try to install Mike's old hard drive in Nelson's computer. But the thing crapped out when we tried to reformat it. There goes 75 bucks! (At least that's what it said on the price tag..) Game of the Day: some Dragon Ball game where you try to press the button as fast as you can (unless you have turbo..). Hey, we're out of root beer! 9/26/97 HBA lost a tough match to Damien at the Eagles gym. They fell behind 11-2 in the first game but scored 9 straight to tie it at 11. Then Damien scored the next four points to win 15-11. In the second game, Damien shot out to a 11-4 lead. HBA fought back and and caught them at 13-13, but eventually ran out of gas and lost 15-13. In the second match of the evening, the HBA girls were looking for their first victory of the season against LaPietra and took a huge lead in the first game.
