Welcome to the rpg section.
First I'll begin with some little previews and reviews about some of the best rpg games.
Ultima Ascension 7.5/10
The first game is Ultima Ascension. It's an addition of the Seri Ultima. It take place in the world of Britannia. Yes it's the same world as Ultima Online but this time the graphics are better. It's a single player rpg. The way you see your character in this game is in 3rd person view (you see him from his back like in Tomb Raider). The level of detail in the world and the spell effects promise to make Ultima Ascension really beautiful and immersive.
Everything in this world is real. It can be interacted with, it can be climbed on, pickup, thrown... The attributes for your character works like in the other Ultimas. The skills work by levels. You gain points in a skill and when you have enough, you gain a upper rank in that skill. There is 4 ranks: Novice, Apprentice, Journeyman, and Master. Let's give an example, if you are Novice in your sword skill you'll only be able to thrust your sword. When you become Apprentice, you can swing it. When you are Journey man, you get a third maneuver. Become Master and have a fourth move that will devastate opponents. You can learn skills for any kind of weapons. Players will have to make the good move on the good monsters. If you thrust at a skeleton, it will not makes lot's of damage. The programmers insisted on the difference of making the "good" move and the "bad" move.
All the non player characters will have full voice recorded dialog. The team that makes Ultima Ascension is working very hard to make this game a really good game. They don't want to kill the Ultimas Seri by putting on the market a game that will continue to decrease the interest of the players on those games. With Ultima Online, lot's of players will hesitate before buying this one. We all remembers all the bugs and poor game play that was in Uo and the peoples at Origin don't want to repeat the same mistake.
Goods: good graphics, lot's of details, big world and spell effects are really good.
Bads: Only one choice of hero, Old style inventory system, Origin took some parts of the game from the old Ultimas and I think they should go on something more innovative.Revenant 8/10
Revenant, a Diablo like game. This game is not in store yet and I think that the one between Diablo 2 and Revenant that will be first released will have players attention. In Revenant, you see like in Diablo, but you can only choose one character, the hero. The spells effects are beautiful and the graphics are dark to make the ambiance and there is lot's of lights effects and amazing colors. The hero name is Locke and as you progress in the game, he will get more abilities. The game is full of monsters slaying action and combat is real-time. When you are higher level, your character will learn to make combos. That's mean that he'll be able to combine the moves he have learned and make one big hit out of them. Also when you are a really good warrior, you'll be able to combine spells with attack moves. Those combos are devastating. That's the good side of the game, casting spells at the same time you are fighting with your sword will let you make lot's of actions at the same time.
Revenant has potential and it should be a hit when it's release at the 3rd quarter of 1999. Rpgs fans should really take a look at this game that seem to me one of the possible best rpg of 1999.
Goods: Really good graphics, spells are spectacular, anyone who enjoy Diablo should get it.
Bads: Only one choice of hero.Everquest 8/10
We have made a larger review for Everquest that you can found here Everquest .
This is all for today's rpg section. Expect more soon has other rpgs will make there ways to the market. I'll had more screen shots for all the games soon.
