Drouin F.C. most celebrated player GARY ABLETT

Gary,s first taste of VFL footy was in 1978 with the hawks playing on permits in the reserves three in 1978 also again 1979 six games in the reserves

Gary Ablett first played senior footy for Hawthorn F.C. on Apr.3 1982 rnd.2 ironically against the Geelong F.C. at Princes park(optus oval). On that day gary had 5 kicks,2 marks,1 handball and scored 1goal 1pt.The hawks won by 19 pts,by the way his jumper was no.35.

A week later at Waverly  vs footscray he starred , named amongst hawks best  players  with 14 k, 9 m, 9 hb,2 g, 5 pts. hawks win by a massive 143pts

His next two games v,s Carlton and Richmond were a little less impressive only picking up 4 and 7 posessions respectively. In  1982 he played 6 senior games and had a total of 47k, 26 m, 21 hb, 9 goals 13 points. In the reserves he played 15 games kicking 60 goals .Hawthorn through no fault of there own had seen the last of Gary Ablett in the brown and gold, I wonder if they knew then that the had lost arguably the best player in the history of the game.Just as well they did as the hawks in the 80,s were almost unbeatable for the entire decade, with Gary they would of been .

1983 came and myrtleford has picked up the recruit of the century and didnt even try,Gary asked the then coach Greg Nicholls(ex geelong player, now we see the link!) if he he could play .This came about because his cousin uncle lenny had some work for him.Needless to say he absolutely dominated, at the time they were saying he was the best player ever to have played country football, theres no doubting that now.
