It's a kind of magic!
Part eight
Six
hostile stares greeted Billy as he walked in through the kitchen door.
"You
lot aren't going to listen to a word I say are you?" he shrugged.
"We
have more important things to deal with than silly misunderstandings."
Interrupted Raven ignoring the flash of anger in Witka's eyes.
"Like
what?" demanded Rae angrily.
"Like
the evil is starting again, but I don't know where from." Replied Raven.
"The
evil?" questioned Nikki who'd only just got used to the idea that her new
companions weren't quite human.
"It's
the only way I can think of to describe it. It's an influence that wants to take
over the world." Answered Raven.
"For
a change," groaned Catherine, "When doesn't an evil influence have the
intention of taking over the world!"
"How
will we find it though?" asked Rae.
"We'll
have to go borrowing." Decided Witka.
Nikki
finally saw the inside of the mystery room. She gazed around her open mouthed at
the various paraphernalia that was necessary for a witch's craft. Rae, Witka,
Katya and Linzi took their places at four of the five points of the pentagram.
Nikki studied the scribbling of runes and other symbols on the floor. Witka
patted the space in between her and Rae.
"You
want me to sit there?" she gasped, "But I don't know any spells or
stuff like that."
"You
don't need to," replied Witka, "You just need to be a fifth person.
Catherine normally does it. This will be a chance for her to study us while we
borrow." Nikki tentatively took her place. The two wolves slunk in, Raven
settling by the window, Billy lounging by the door. Catherine lit the candles as
Witka reached out and held up Nikki's hands touching them by the fingertips.
With a soft sigh her body went rigid the other three soon following suit.
Catherine talked softly to Nikki.
"They're
off borrowing now." Said Catherine.
"What
is that exactly?" asked Nikki.
"The
best I can explain it as is that they attach part of their mind to another mind.
A bit like riding pillion on a bike." Explained Catherine. Nikki inclined
her head to the wolves.
"Why
are they here?" she asked.
"You
saw Linzi last night. Sometimes borrowing can send her like that again."
Grimaced Catherine.
"Into
an elf?"
"Yep.
Into an elf," Replied Catherine, "The only things that can control an
elf are iron and werewolves."
"You
know a lot about this don't you." Said Nikki. Catherine nodded.
"I've
been researching witchcraft, werewolves and vampires all my life. Since I was a
child." Catherine told her. "I'm an authority on those subjects."
They sat in silence for about half an hour. Then Catherine stirred.
"They're
coming back." She said. The two dogs sat up on their haunches alert for
anything. Witka shook her head as Rae and Katya came back. Rae looked worriedly
at the still figure of Linzi. Suddenly the wolf by the door began yelping and
running round in circles trying to bite it's tail. It howled miserably as it
managed to grab its tail. Linzi sat up straight with a satisfied smirk on her
face. Witka looked at her sternly.
"That
was mean." She scolded. Linzi nodded.
"Yes
it was," she agreed, "But it makes me feel better."
"Did
you get anything?" Rae asked Catherine. Catherine nodded.
"It's
the vampires and the ministry again." She sighed looking at Katya. Katya
looked down.
