It's a thin line
Part three
When
Linzi came to she was lying down with Mel holding an ice pack to her head.
Across from her, in a similar position was Billy. Ric was standing in between
them, trying to look stern and failing.
"I'm
not going to ask you to shake hands again," he said, "I just want you
to try to be civilised to each other. As they both mumbled their agreement he
continued.
"All
that needs to be decided is who gets the cruiserweight belt."
"What!"
exclaimed Billy sitting up. He winced and carefully replaced the ice pack on his
head. Mel explained.
"When
you knocked each other out Linzi fell on top of you. Rey made the count so
technically Linzi beat you."
"Thanks
mate." said Billy. Rey shrugged, trying not to laugh.
"Sorry."
Both
of us were helped up to our rooms. Probably to stop us killing each other.
A
few days later I was in the physio suite waiting for my first patient. The door
opened and Ric Flair walked in.
"Can
I help you?" I asked.
"No,"
he shook his head, "I've just come to watch."
I
looked at the first name on my list. Billy Kidman.
"To
watch or protect?" I asked.
"Both,"
he replied, "So why do you hate each other so much?"
"It
all started when our Dad's were in school and fell in love with the same girl.
Billy's Mum. My Dad went off to England to mend his broken heart and met my Mum.
He started his own company and decided to move back to America. Both men were
successful at their businesses and became bitter rivals. That over spilled to me
and Billy."
"But
why do you keep fighting each other?"
"When
my Dad came back from America Billy was about one. His Dad kept bragging about
his son and my Dad tried for a son as well. But he got me."
"That
doesn't explain the fighting."
"My
Dad wanted a son. He fed me, clothed me and put a roof over my head, but I
wasn't a boy. The only time he was ever pleased with me was when I fought Billy.
It soon became a habit almost."
Billy
standing outside the door decided that it was time to make his entrance. As
Linzi went about her job Ric continued to ask questions.
"So
what made you chose physiotherapy?"
"I
was impressed with what they did when I broke my wrist." Linzi glared at
Billy as she said this.
"Well
you were trying to strangle me with a bike chain."
"Only
because you'd snapped the damn chain."
Ric
sighed.
"Haven't
you two ever got on.
"Once."
said Billy, smiling.
"And
I've never forgiven you for it," snarled Linzi, "I can't do this I'll
get someone else." Both men stared in surprise as she left the room in
tears.
