It's a thin line

Part four

Linzi sat in her small office. There was a knock at the door and Mel's head poked round.

"Are you alright?" she asked. Linzi nodded.

"Bi..someone said you were upset." Linzi shrugged.

"It's nothing." Mel came into the room and perched on the edge of Linzi's desk. She picked up a photo.

"Who's this?" asked Mel. Linzi smiled.

"My daughter. She'll be two soon." Mel studied the photo.

"Where is she?"

"In England with my Mum. When I'm settled I bring her over."

"She doesn't look like you. Does she take after her Dad?"

"Yes." replied Linzi shortly.

"And who is.." Linzi butted in

"Just some guy." Mel returned the photo to the desk.

"Do you want know who I think she looks like." said Mel

"No I don't," snapped Linzi, "No offence Mel but I've got a lot of work to do." Mel left, but turned back at the door to stare at Linzi.

"You can't keep it secret for ever. Did you write to her Dad when you found out?"

"Yes, and I had no reply at all. Emily and I are alright. We don't need him."

Later in the day Mel was showing Rey the photo.

"What do you think?" she asked. Rey nodded.

"Now all we've got to do is get Linzi to admit it," said Rey, "That's not going to be easy. They hate each other."

"You know what they say," said Mel, "There's a thin line between love and hate. We've just got to get them to cross the line."

"It's not going to be easy." repeated Rey.
