| Well,
Pain Tolerance is finally back up and is heading straight. I’ve had some
hard drive-computer problems the past week, and finally things are starting
to get back to normal. Anyway, now down to this week’s columns. RAW and
Nitro will be at the top of my agenda since they are the biggest thing
to happen of late. WCW possibly starting a women’s division, I surely hope
so, the recent releasing of Nicole Bass, Ryan Shamrock and Shannon Hall,
Fully Loaded and to top it all off, I’d like to continue the failed gimmick
of the week.
Well,
I got to see Nitro tonight, since I live in Canada we see it Wednesday
Afternoon. Some stuff was amusing but, most was smoke blown out of chimney.
Last week Eric Bischoff hyped the debut of the ICP, and what did that do?
Nothing. What did it do when Scott Hudson at the beginning of the program
do when he announced Rodman and ICP were there, just ruin the surprise
effect. WCW could have most likely grabbed a few more viewers if they had
of not mentioned the ICP debut and Rodman appearance. Just because it was
posted all over the internet does not mean that they should just give up
and just bring the guys out. They did the same thing with Master P at the
pay-per-view, and it just went down hill from there. The Arli$$ guy was
totally retarded, I’ve never heard of that show until some rumors popped
up about wrestler appearances, but I’m glad I have not seen the show, secondly
what was up with every single broadcaster in WCW running out with a mic
to Rodman, it was like a mini press conference that looked like it was
thrown together in 5 minutes. I seriously hope we do not see Rodman wrestle.
Especially against a guy like Savage. That match would be terrible. The
leadership match on Nitro was pretty good, the fans in attendance were
loud through out the night, but were really supporting Sting through out
the match. Only thing is, now where will WCW go? It seems as though Roddy
Piper is gone now, until he is called back by the powers that be of WCW
behind the scenes. With Sting in control, what will happen? During that
match they kept stating over and over that Sting felt he was being grounded
below Flair through his career in WCW, well now he has the power, will
this finally be the time that the inexperienced guys start to gain some
recognition over the experienced wrestlers that have been headlining pay-per-views
and shows for the past couple of years? Only time will tell I suppose.
Will some please explain to me where Eric Bischoff fits on camera? As I
see it, he’s a guy that has power, can become a referee, the president,
the savior, and then a color commentator at any given time. Ric Flair has
been the "On Camera President" for the past few months, and him and Bischoff
are supposedly enemies, yet Bischoff is still employed and still has power
to make decisions. WCW please fill in the cracks, so the angles look more
realistic. Now Hogan, Hollywood-maniacs? That just does not have the same
ring to it. With Hogan coming out on Nitro doing the flexes and ear callings,
it seemed as if I was watching Hulkamania on a black and white television.
Hogan has been getting mad pops for the past two weeks, but what does that
mean? What will happen three months down the road when the fans are sick
and tired of Hogan again? Is he going to pull a Piper and take off three
months or so and then come back for four or so month only to leave again?
To tell you the truth, I’d like that a whole lot better then seeing Hogan
day in and day out. By the way, if it wasn’t dumb enough seeing Hogan pull
a publicity stunt by stating he was running for President of The US, now
they have Macho Man doing it. God, just say your going to be the WCW champ
again, don’t go wandering into broken promises land, because there were
probably a couple of people watching Nitro thinking Macho Man was serious.
Same with Hogan awhile back. Now, last thing about Nitro I’m going to comment
on is about Scott Hudson. The guy was a hell of a lot better then Shiavone.
I suggest Shiavone gets bumped to Thunder, Zybsco does Saturday Night and
Tenay works Thunder and Saturday Night. Let Bobby Heenan and Hudson work
Nitro, because I really liked their commentary. For once in WCW Nitro History,
the match going on WAS HYPED! Usually Shiavone is too damn busy hyping
some other match, to not even call a series of moves in a match. Hudson
and Bischoff were working well, pushing the matches to their potential,
and getting good comments from Heenan every once and awhile. Let’s face
it, no one will ever beat the team of Lawler and Ross, but Heenan and Hudson
fit well together, and the third man which was Bischoff fit the combo nicely.
Well,
I got to see RAW late Monday night thanks to TSN pre-empting RAW due to
a Blue Jays baseball game, anyway, I was a bit disappointed with RAW, nothing
new, just the same angles running along. For this being the last RAW leading
up to Fully Loaded it was a fairly quiet RAW. The main event never did
finish, so by default HHH faces Rock and Taker faces Austin. Why did they
even bother having the match? Is the WWF booking staff that much in a bind
not to come up with some fresh new match? Or at least set the pay-per-view
up better. It seems WCW is becoming more bizarre and unpredictable because
of sloppy angles, and WWF is becoming dry and predictable because of the
whole Stone Cold promising bit. He promises something, and come high or
low water it happens, even if he gets messed up in the end. Hopefully come
SummerSlam a new major story line will develop. Vince McMahon is superb
at making angles work, and adding new twists and turns, but how many twists
can you have in one feud? Hopefully Fully Loaded will be the end.
Now,
that Monday Night Thoughts are over, I’d like to adventure into the possible
resurrection of a Women’s division in WCW. I’m all for it. Especially with
women like Medusa and Miss Madness leading the way. Only thing is, will
WCW spare no expense in bringing REAL female wrestlers, and not just sticking
a Sable or Debra in their division like the WWF did? Maybe WCW can use
their agreement with New Japan or whatever Japanese federation they associate
with, to bring some ladies over to compete.
With
the recent firing of some of the ladies in the WWF, you have to wonder
what’s with the WWF? They were supposedly working very hard to train Nicole
Bass as a female wrestler, and they let her go. Shannon Hall was supposed
to be hired to compete in the Women’s division and was dropped as well,
then the real shocker to a lot of people. The firing of Ryan Shamrock.
She was one of the more marketable ladies in the WWF, that probably could
of been great on the mic if given the chance. With her firing there has
been a Save Ryan Shamrock Online Campaign started, hey it worked for the
Blue Meanie. Could work again for a beauty. The URL is at the bottom of
this page if you would like to sign the campaign going on. I have nothing
to do with it, except I signed it. Finally with the firings, came the end
of Goldust. He is supposedly in the process of getting a divorce to his
wife Terri Runnels, who is heard of signed a new contract with the WWF.
Goldust was always a popular and controversial wrestler, but I think when
the brought in The Blue Meanie it just brought down integrity of Goldust.
Fully
Loaded Predictions now.
First
Blood Rules, End of an Era World title match - Steve Austin will most likely
be screwed some how out of this, and then McMahon will celebrate, the usual
Corporate Ministry interview to start off RAW, then Austin will come out
and say that since the contract was signed in blood it isn’t binding or
some ridiculous thing like that, will prolong the feud till Summer Slam,
where Vince will back HHH as HHH takes on Austin or Taker and wins it back
for Vince. Probably won’t happen, but oh well.
#1
Contender’s Strap Match - Well If you read the above prediction, you can
tell I think HHH is going to SummerSlam for his title shot. This feud has
gone on and off for so long, and each time they rekindle it, they have
one good match and then they just have HHH get his ass kicked by the Rock
at every chance. Hopefully HHH will win and go on to SummerSlam.
Tag
Title Handy Cap Match - I’ve heard Michael Hayes is going to compete in
this match? I don’t know why or really care, I just want to see the Hardy’s
Retain the title till SummerSlam and then face The Godfather and Val Venis.
IC
Title Match - I really don’t see Edge winning the IC title JUST because
he abandoned the Brood. This isn’t WCW were the Flock disbands and all
the lackies become superstars. Probably the usual Jarrett match with help
from Debra, maybe Christian will come out and turn on Edge?
European
Title Match - Let D-Lo have a title! Please. He is so underrated it’s not
funny. For a guy his size he for sure agile. The Low Down has to be one
of the most spectacular finishers to watch in wrestling today. Mideon should
not have a title to begin with.
The
Rights to DX - Well I’m a huge HHH/Chyna fan so I’m hoping that Chyna and
Billy Gunn walk out of this one over Road Dogg Jesse James and X-Pac with
the rights to DX. What would make a lot of people happy, and to finally
end the DX rumors, would be to have this match go down like the Triple
H Vs. HBK match did at the X-Mas RAW ’97 in a "fake" match, then have HHH
come down, stating that DX has been together all along and that he going
to lead DX to the World Title.
Well
That’s all the matches that I have seen advertised. If I forgot one or
one is added to the card before the pay-per-view just enjoy it. Now onto
the failure gimmick of the week. This week’s failure gimmick has to be
Hollywood Hogan. The guy has come back for two cards, and the fans are
going crazy, I personally wish he would just go away. But the just won’t
quit. He’s like a UFC fighter that is dying in the octagon but won’t give
up. Hogan is just embarrassing himself, World Championship Wrestling and
his opponent every time he gets in the ring.
Now
do to computer problems over the past week end, I lost all my personal
files, including e-mails. Therefore I do not have any of your responses
to the poll of last week, so I’m, going to run the poll again, and please
send in your responses to [email protected] "A lot of people say that
RVD Vs. Jerry Lynn matches in ECW are five star. Well, now, it’s your turn.
Choose two guys from each fed that you think could put on a five star match
for the crowd, for each federation." Just so you don’t get confused or
anything, I’m going to give you my choices right now, so you can see what
I mean.
WCW
- Chris Benoit Vs. Kanyon. Last night at the pay-per-view, these two in
the ring had me staring at the TV without blinking. I didn’t want to miss
a second of the action, and I’m hoping I will see Benoit Vs. Kanyon for
the World Title maybe some day.
ECW
- Rob Van Dam Vs. Jerry Lynn. The Whole FN Show, and the NEW FN Show, these
two have had many’s of battles, but I never get bored watching them.
WWF
- Edge Vs. Chris Jericho. This one had me thinking. Jericho is new, and
he is pretty young and so is Edge, so this could be main event match for
the WWF title some day at a Wrestlemania maybe.
Send
your choices and or comments about this column to [email protected] As
always, have a nice night everyone and thanks for reading. |
