Pain Tolerance - July 27

Monday has arrived, and Pain Tolerance is updated yet again. Well it’s been a week since I last wrote, and we’ve seen a lot. This week’s column will include Fully Loaded thoughts, thoughts on the women’s divisions of both the WWF and WCW, the Triple H-Chyna-Bad Ass Billy Gunn group, failed gimmick of the week, and to wrap it all up, Poll Results from last week and a new poll.

Here’s my fully loaded thoughts, match per match.
Jeff Jarrett Vs. Edge for the IC title.
This match should have pushed back in the card, the Intercontinental title is the second most prestigious title in the WWF and they have it as the opening match? The match was fairly good, Edge has really come into his own as of late, and should soon be holding the IC title for a lengthy title reign in my opinion. I can see why the WWF allowed Edge to win the title in his hometown of Toronto, but they really should of let him hold on to the strap to maybe SummerSlam, and lose it back to Jarrett or another up and comer.

Acolytes Vs. Hardy Boyz for the Tag Team Titles.
This match was kind of slow at the beginning due to the outside brawling, but once they got it going in the ring, and kept it there, it wasn’t too bad of a match. I’ve never really liked the Hardy Boyz, but I’ll admit their aerial moves are awesome. That clothesline that Bradshaw delivered to Matt Hardy I think, was totally devastating. I was glad to see the Acolytes win the titles back. I’d really like to see The Godfather and Val Venis get their chance in the spotlight with the gold sometime soon. Hopefully SummerSlam.

D-Lo Brown Vs. Mideon for the European title.
This was actually much better than I first thought it was going to end up being. Mideon ain’t the greatest wrestler, but when you have a guy like D-Lo in their working a match it makes up for the lack of agility on the other guy’s behalf. D-Lo is a bit like Chris Benoit. He seems to be underrated by the bookers, but is impressive to the fans, and does win a title once and awhile, but the title they win, really makes no sense or is not appreciated as much.

Big Boss Man Vs. Al Snow for the Hard Core title.
I am really beginning to hate the Hard Core matches. I like comedy in them, and appreciate the performance these guys are putting on, but if every WWF Hard Core title match is going to be taken out and around the arena, then why don’t they just change the name of the division and title to "Falls Count Anywhere on the Arena grounds." Or Falls count anywhere. Because that’s basically what these matches are. In a falls count anywhere match you can’t get disqualified, and you can go anywhere in the arena. They should just keep it around ringside, and have actual legitimate weapons around, and not a jug of water, or a bean bag like last night up at the entrance way. Anyway, Big Boss Man won by putting his foot on a sitting Al Snow? Makes no sense to me. I guess the Boss Man’s main event push is over, did it ever really get started? Does facing the Rock in Night Stick on the pole matches day in and day out at house shows, and losing miserably count as a main event push? I guess he thought so. Now Al Snow. Sometimes he can be hilarious, and sometimes he can be just annoying. Sunday night at the pay-per-view he was annoying. This unstable angle or whatever you would like to call it, is seriously irritating, how long is he going to job, in distress of Head’s "piercing?" It’s shaping up like the blood bath bit, he receieved a few months ago. He was in stress for a couple weeks, then he’s back to normal. That isn’t a gimmick. That’s just a retard going out and talking to a mannequin, pleading to job.

Kane Vs. Big Show
So the Big Show has commercial tights now? Wow, couldn’t they of been more original with them? The high spot of this match came within the first minute with Big Show pressing Kane over his head and tossing him to the outside. Then everything totally slowed down from there, ended with Bob Holly chop blocking Kane’s leg as he was about to deliver a Choke slam on the Big Show, wow no one saw that coming. Quick three count for Bigshow. Then probably the most screwed up thing the WWF has done in awhile. Big Show and Undertake cooperating together while pummeling Kane. I can see why both of them wanted at Kane, but why did the WWF even bother having the angle a few weeks ago, with Undertaker cracking open Big Show with a steel chair, and let’s not forget on of the most memorable matches on RAW a couple weeks back , with Big Show choke slamming Undertaker through the canvas. Total waste of time. Plus, how long is this new friendship between Big Show and Taker going to last? My guess, not very long, which is just another dumb move.

Iron Circle match between Shamrock and Blackman.
This match was really boring to watch, not much talent in this one, unless you consider slamming your body into a windshield a talent. This was basically just a lot of rolling around with some irish whips into the cars and hip tosses onto the cars. Shamrock wins by choking Blackman. I’m not sure if I’m right, but after the match when Shamrock gets off of Blackman is that not Viscera, Mideon and Farooq standing between two of the cars? Why didn’t they attack Shamrock, would of made it a little bit more interesting.

Rights to DX: Chyna and Bad Ass Billy Gun Vs. Road Dog and X-Pac.
Every time I see Chyna compete, I become more impressed every time. Of course her opponents are selling like crazy, but she is doing some decent moves, and follows up on them unlike some wrestlers. I was really hoping for Bad Ass and Chyna to pull this one off, but of course they have to please the majority of fans, who were behind X-Pac and Road Dog.

#1 Contender’s Strap Match: Triple H Vs. The Rock.
Well, if you’ve ever talked wrestling with me, you know I’ve been a Triple H fan since he was the Blue Blood snob all the way up to his latest gimmick. So whenever you start talking about Triple H, I got a million things to say about him, but the thing that really irritates me about the way he is being pushed is the outside interference. They have him finally beat The Rock, and then now he’s back in a feud with him. If the WWF wants to make HHH a legitimate champion, they have to start allowing him to earn the W’s and not just pass them to him with Chyna’s help, or now Bad Ass’s. If he can’t get by The Rock with out no help, how in the world do they expect people to believe he even has a chance at the gold when he battles the Main man, Stone Cold Steve Austin. Anyway, this match had a promising line, and it delivered. The bits with the Rock grabbing the woman’s camera and snapping a picture of Triple H was pretty funny, basically a good match all the way through.

End of an Era Championship Match: Undertaker Vs. Steve Austin. So the WWF has decided to end the Austin-McMahon feud for a few months, I seriously doubt Vince will be gone longer then two months or less, since the WWF just wouldn’t be the same without him. Shane will someday take over the WWF when Vince is no longer to run it, or passes away, but there will never be anyone like Vince, the facial expressions the mic work, everything. McMahon may have not been a wrestler, but he has played a large role in where wrestling is today, and where it’s headed. Really good match, even though we’ve seen these two get it on many, many times now. The crowd on hand was going wild. I’m surprised Shane took that hard of a chair shot from Austin, probably Austin got a little bit to anxious, but in any event, I haven’t read any reports of an injury, so he must be okay.

Well, both federations are making the move to revive their own women divisions again. WCW doesn’t have a title set out, but probably will soon, unless they are just doing these women matches for the variety of wrestling, and entertainment value. Ivory finally came back out tonight on RAW and did the bit with the woman from the audience coming in again, hopefully this woman will be apart of the division as well, so the WWF will have some decent workers and not just eye candy. Tori is finally back, and the vignettes are over, and now it’s time to step back into the ring, hopefully at SummerSlam we’ll see Tori Vs. Ivory for the women’s title, I’d really like to see Tori win, because I do think she has the potential to be a figure head like Sable was with the Women’s title, but with Tori she’d be able to back up her words in the ring, unlike Sable.

Well, I basically stated above how I felt about the constant interference by Bad Ass and Chyna in Triple H’s matches, but I don’t mind at all if they were to keep these three together. Chyna and HHH should always be together, but at least tone down the interference by Chyna. If the WWF is Hell bent on getting Bad Ass Vs. The Rock going, then set it up on Gunn’s time, not one Triple H’s match, and especially not a match like that, where the number one contender’s spot was on the line.

A few week’s back I started the Failed Gimmick of the week, and got such good reader response I decided to keep it going, well now some of you are even sending in your own failed gimmicks along with your choices of the Poll of the week, and I thank you readers for any feedback you send to me, whether it be positive or not, it’s all welcome. Anyway, here’s this week’s failed gimmick of the week. The Hardy Boyz. They get no crowd heat, they don’t have any set angles or any gimmick, they just come out to some funky music, wearing funky clothing, wrestle their 10 minute match or so, and then leave. I got a chance to attend the recent House Show in the Toronto Skydome, this past Saturday, and Michael P.S. Hayes came out, got cheap heat for putting down Canada, and the Toronto sport teams, and then introduced the Hardy’s. Well the dome was silent, and that’s a hard feat to accomplish when you have roughly twenty five thousand people on hand. Their music hit, and maybe there was the odd cat call from a fan near ringside, but that was about it. Same at the pay-per-view on Sunday night. They came out, wrestled, and basically the only time they got a good reaction from the crowd was for their aerial maneuvers and the mid air clothesline from Bradshaw.

Now onto the poll. I got a lot of responses and I’d like to thank everyone who voted. The following are some of the responses from you, the readers.

WCW- Vampiro vs. Eddy Guerrero - These are the most underrated and misused wrestlers in the company. Eddy had a push 2 years ago, and Vampiro is hopefully getting one now, but they'd have an entertaining match.
WWF- Vince McMahon vs. Steve Austin - I choose this only because I'm sure a match between a couple of guys with talent would end with a no-contest or DQ because of interference. This match would only be a success though if both Austin and Vince were somehow injured and as a result, and would never appear on Raw again. But I'm sure Vince would just show up in a wheelchair, and SCSA would show up in a cast. Too bad, because without them, it would transform back into a wrestling show instead of the talk show it is in the current "trendy" format.
ECW- Rob Van Dam vs. Super Crazy - Where I live, in Indiana, we haven't gotten ECW for months, so this was a choice based on what I got to see. Rob Van Dam is an extremely talented wrestler, and fighting a fast-paced, high-flying luchador would make for a great match.

WWF:(Ladder Match for the World Title) Jericho vs. HBK. Sigh, it's just a dream. But think about it, Shawn is one of the greatest workers in history, and Jericho is certainly set to become the next Shawn Micheals. Wouldn't it be suiting for HBK to go out in style, by being beaten by The Lionheart in a ladder match for the title?
WCW:(U.S. Title match) Raven or Vampiro vs. Sid. Don't deny it, this one could be classic. Classic, providing it's done right by WCW(which is unlikely). Think about it Raven or Vamp going face in a falls count any where match for the U.S. title, preferably on a pay per view. Having one of these men beat Sid in unique style would put them over instantly.
ECW:(World Title Match) Yoshiri Tajiri vs. Jerry Lynn. It could just be me, but I think that these two could put on one hell of a show. No matter the outcome this one would be talked about for years.

Here are my 2 choices for the top-2 cause I have never seen ECW (but it does sound kick ass) WCW: Blitzkreig vs Rey Mesterio, if you remember when they first fought their match was awesome and I would love to see another one WWF: Undertaker vs Kane vs Big Show Hell in the Cell Mankind as special ref: Sure Big show is slow but hey you know and sure Refs are generally not important in HiC matches but hey mankind has some sort of connection to everybody in this so it would be interesting to see who he helps

Well, that’s it for last week’s poll, now for this week’s poll. "Due to all the title changes at the pay-per-view, if you had the chance, who would you book as the new champions of each title?" It can be anyone in the World Wrestling Federation as of right now, try and be realistic. Giving Howard Finkel the WWF title isn’t realistic The titles are WWF Heavy weight title, Intercontinental title, Hard core title, European title, Women’s title and the tag team titles. Please make sure to include reasons, or explanations as to why you chose each wrestler. Some of you are just sending me your picks with no reasons.

Send your choices to [email protected] have a nice night everyone and thanks for reading.
