Tolerance is finally back online. Pretty hectic week around here. For the
first time this year, I actually have homework. Whether I do it or not,
will be the question. Anyway, a lot of things have happened since I last
wrote. The Radicals have made their debuts in the WWF, and one of them
has already injured himself. Eddy Guerrero. That would have to put some
doubt in the WWF’s mind’s if these guys were worth the money and will they
be able to with stand the pressure and attention. Today’s column will include,
a look at the WWF compared to WCW, Sabu to WCW, over the past few weeks
the PTC has made their inevitable return to bashing the WWF product, the
radicals in WWF, and to wrap this column up the failed gimmick of the week.
In
the mid-90’s, most of you will recall the WWF hanging on with low, low
ratings. Now the tables have turned and it’s WCW face first in the mud.
One thing that is different though, is that during that down fall for the
WWF, they nearly always sold out the buildings they were in. Right now,
WCW is giving away more tickets to each event then the ones that are legitimately
bought. It seems every time you log onto the internet, and you check out
a news board you see posts with something like "WCW plummeting", or "WCW
in turmoil", meanwhile you see WWF headlines that are nearly always positive.
With the most recent blow to WCW being this discrimination law suit not
only Goldberg, but the entire WCW staff has to be asking "Who’s Next".
It seems every single day they is something else going on with them. In
the summer the main topic was whether Jericho would jump ship to WWF or
stay with WCW. Well we all know what he did. Now the same with the "radicals".
Will WCW ever get out of this? I don’t see a hope in hell because of one
factor. There is no set leader. With all the paranoia and backstage politics
how do you expect a business to run? To coin an old phrase "There’s too
many chiefs, and not enough indians." Everyone wants to be the head booker.
There is just too much stuff going on at one time for the place to run
well. The WWF has ONE man in charge. Vince McMahon. Anything in the company
has to be passed by him. You don’t like that, you don’t work with the WWF.
In WCW the wrestlers show up wondering who will be in charge at that point
in time. One thing that really stuck out in my mind was, when Russo first
came to WCW, I read in a chat transcript of his, that some of the WCW wrestlers
were having problems cutting backstage promos. They were so used to looking
at the camera and ignoring the interviewer (Mean Gene most times), that
it looked pretty stupid. While he was there, you could see the conscious
effort to ignore the camera. While now that he is gone the wrestlers
just stand there expressionless staring at the camera feeding us a bunch
of lines. Not interesting at all. At least it’s better than ECW’s backstage
promos. Just as an example tonight on TNN we saw Raven talking to Mikey
Whipwreck, and then James Vanderburg came on to the picture laughing hysterical.
What the hell was the point or NEED for that? By the way, why the hell
did they have him sitting on the table? Even worse, the New Jack/Balls
Mahoney or whoever he is. New Jack trying to act like a determined mad
man but was stuttering and stumbling on his words worse than a Dudley Boy.
Also, I thought I heard the Dupps signed with WWF? Why are they still in
ECW?
Sabu
to WCW? Wow. The way I look at it, he’s useless to both companies. ECW
hasn’t used him properly since the TNN show started. WCW will have him
opening Thunder in no time. Actually I’ve even heard his first match will
be on Thunder. What’s that saying? Not a whole lot for his future. Speaking
of ECW they’re often referred to as the WWF’s farm team. I can see why.
They let the big two walk right over them and they do nothing about it.
WCW raided an took guys like Saturn, Raven, Bam Bam Bigelow and others.
WWF took Taz right from below their noses, WHEN HE WAS THEIR CHAMPION.
Heyman may be called the best booker in wrestling (I seriously don’t see
where all the hype is), but he is definitely not a good business man. People
thought it was bad when the WWF screwed up and lost Russo. Well that hasn’t
hurt them has it? Losing your champion when he has the belt, now that’s
just pathetic. I bet Heyman would love to have Taz still right now, especially
with Rob Van Dam out of action. Just out of curiosity if your an ECW fan,
email me your thoughts on that spot with Raven getting blinded and giving
a DDT to Francine. If that good booking then please keep the crap away.
Just for the record I don’t hate everything about ECW, and do not
like every thing about the WWF, however when this Raven/Dreamer crap is
the main event based story line, then it’s pretty sad. It makes no sense.
If they have this big history before Raven left for WCW, then what happened
to it? Why are all three federations so bizarre? You turn on Nitro and
see Norman Smiley dancing while mimicking masturbation. You got an eighty
two year old woman on RAW thinking the fans want to see her puppies, and
in ECW we got body guards called Dick, and what the Rock would call "Jabroni’s".
Scary interests we all have.
Just
for a quick note. Chyna was on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno tonight.
Pretty good interview, and a very unique dress. If Lucy Lawless ever got
sick, Chyna could fill in for her on Xena: Warrior Princess, easily.
The
PTC is back at it again. I’m not going to spend much time on this idiotic
group, since I ranted on them a while back. The main thing I think they
need to realize is. By kicking up a storm about Smackdown and causing the
WWF to modify the show, they are ruining the other wrestling fans entertainment.
Personally I could care less what two little ten year olds are doing after
watching a wrestling show. Wrestling is violent. Yes. Sometimes it’s a
bit graphic as well. But it’s not a groups responsibility to monitor a
child’s television intake. If the parents who brought the child into the
world, are not responsible enough to watch or at least maintain what their
kid is doing, then blame it on them. Go put them in jail. I’m sick of hearing
about some little child in some city who was stupid enough to use a shovel
on his friend, or hit his dog or sister or dad or whoever, with a frying
pan. I don’t care if you haven’t been given the time of day by your parents
in your life time, you know when you pick up a shovel or whatever, and
hit another human being with it that they are going to get injured. No
matter what age you are. If you don’t. Then take that kid off the street
and get him some psychiatric help. Plain and Simple, it’s the PARENT’S
RESPONSIBILITY TO MONITOR THEIR CHILD.
Well
the Radicals have now entered the WWF. They came in, in an excellent way.
Pairing them up with Foley was a great idea. Although, the only thing that
was pretty stupid, or rather stupid any time it’s done, is the wrestler’s
acting friendly backstage. That was the first week, this past week we saw
the Radicals turn on Cactus Jack, and side with Triple H and DX. Honestly,
pretty stupid. These guys would have been better as a group to feud against
DX. But either way last week’s RAW main event was one of the best of recent
memory. Also, I didn’t catch the city RAW was in, but that had to be one
of the loudest and most active crowds in a while. The crowd is very important
in running the match. Can you imagine if the were just 10,000 people or
so sitting there quietly? The wrestlers wouldn’t have any adrenaline. However,
insert 10,000 screaming fans and each of those wrestlers will blow the
roof down, or as in Jericho’s terms, "break the walls down".
Almost
finished today’s column. The failed gimmick of the week is... The recent
attitude of Lex Luger. Firstly, the attitude is all right, except it would
be nice to see him face somebody worth while. Brian Knobbs? Fit Finlay?
What tough competition. Luger isn’t over that well to carry a match, and
I can just see Hogan/Luger at Super Brawl being a complete flop. When was
the last time Luger actually won a match? Anytime I see him he’s getting
handed the ball bat by Liz, and is wailing away on his opponents getting
himself disqualified. I wouldn’t mind seeing this Luger angle transpire
into a Lex Luger/Bret hart feud down the line. Luger could state he is
the Hitman taking out all these guys, Hart returns and reclaims his "Hitman"
nickname while playing up the feud as the face.
That’s
all for today. Hope you enjoyed the column, thanks for reading. |
