Welcome back to yet another edition of Pain Tolerance. This week’s column will mainly deal with some of the recent angles and matches being signed by WCW and WWF, about Jericho in the WWF, about the female on RAW with Ivory, and the Women’s division.

Well, after a week of hearing that the Hardcore Holly "big shot" attitude is great, everywhere I go, I’d have to disagree. Sure, it’s great for Holly who has never really had a legitimate gimmick, that didn’t look ridiculous and that could get him over so nicely, sure he’s turning into someone the fans love to hate, but has anyone thought of these big men that are getting challenged by Holly? When Kane, or Big Show or Viscera walk out to take him up on his challenge, they aren’t helping their appearance, think about it, if a 7’1 or so, three hundred plus man walks out, like Kane, and he slaughters a guy like Holly in the ring, does that impress you? No. Does it impress you if he loses? For Holly yes, since it’s taking heat away from Kane, whose supposedly this big giant that powers through anyone in his path. The WWF really has to go back to the drawing board on this one, is it really worth the effort to get him over, but to screw with the big men’s appearances? I don’t think so. If they wanted to get Holly over as a good wrestler, they should of had him cleanly pin X-Pac in the first round match at KOTR, then put up a good showing against Kane or Big Show, whoever would win, but have him lose to them, not like on Heat where he gets pummeled and then denies it hurts, that’s not bravery, but pure dumbness.

Now, WCW is signing a "Last Dance" match between Disco Inferno Vs. Ernest Miller. First off, they have to let Disco Inferno win, since his gimmick is a music one! It’d be pretty hard to be called Disco Inferno,
but not be able to dance. Yet again, I’d hate to see the Cat’s superb talent go to waste. Note the sarcasm. Personally, this gimmick match should be scrapped, or maybe put them in a blind fold match, just not a stupid "Last Dance" match, unless you want Disco to job, so he can get a be out for a few weeks, and come back repackaged. Wouldn’t it be great to see Disco lose on Bash at the Beach, take two weeks off, and then come back, as a rocker, or something and let him shoot on Nitro saying he has been stuck in the Disco era for so long, but finally now he can get with the times? Okay, maybe not. Well, how long do you expect a Disco gimmick to play out? The  millennium is getting closer by every day that goes by. Anyway, before this match goes down, WCW better think it out carefully, because it seems they favor Ernest Miller over Disco, so it looks like he’ll win, but if he does, they’ve just screwed Disco out of a gimmick.

With that down, now it’s time to talk about another angle WCW has been tinkering with but has yet to push to the top. The Young Vs. Old angle, or as I prefer to call it The Experienced Wrestlers Vs. Non Experienced Wrestlers, since half of the alleged wrestlers on the "old" team aren’t old! I don’t believe you can classify anyone in the Triad old. Anyway, WCW to me, made a big mistake by putting Buff Bagwell in leadership of the "young" group. He may be fairly over with the crowd, but really he’s not that impressive in the ring, and when I was watching the six man tag a few weeks ago on Nitro, it was mainly Malenko and Benoit carrying the young group in the ring. Bagwell got the pin on Flair, but really he was
just riding the coat tails of Malenko in that match. Now WCW supposedly wants to put the United States strap around his waist, well that’d be great for him, but what about guys like Benoit, Malenko and Saturn, who never have really gotten, the chance. Buff was in the nWo when it was popular, so therefore he had plenty of time there to get over, now you got Benoit, who’s ONLY gotten over on his wrestling skill, since he never has been put in a proper angle, except for raising his four fingers every time a camera was in his face. Oh, and let’s not forget his one in a lifetime angle of the man who brought back the Horsemen, which was really just a way to get Ric Flair back in WCW as a face. Sure it worked, but what exposure did Benoit get besides being the loyal Flair friend? Nothing else. Anyway, it’s time to get Benoit on top of the mountain and let him go at it with the big names, forget about having him in a tag with Saturn. Just on a not to that, it would be great to see Jericho Vs. Benoit in WWF for the Heavy Weight Title on day, maybe it’ll come true.  Anyway, back to the Young Vs. Old angle, this would really work, but who, out of the Big names would step up and admit to being a "old" wrestler. It’s hard enough to make these guys fade away and leave the company, never mind having them labeled the old guys and have to job to the likes of Buff, Benoit, Malenko, Saturn etc. Flair and Piper have been the only ones that have stepped up, but even with them, it seems this angle as slipped away slowly. Savage has supposedly refused to be apart of it, and I don’t believe Bischoff or Nash would even waste their breath asking Hogan to be apart of it, but speaking of Hogan he supposedly asked to do a shoot interview focusing on how the young guys can’t sell tickets and merchandise, but of course I don’t think he’d actually get in the ring and back up his words. The final gimmick I’m going to look at today, before moving on is the Beaver Cleavage reformation into Chaz. So Chaz has a no-gimmick gimmick? His gimmick now, is to go out and fight like his normal self? Well I don’t think that’ll work, even though Chaz Vs. Meat on RAW this past week was decent. Maybe we’ll see Thrasher, Chaz’s former Head Banger partner, come out with a non-gimmick gimmick, and maybe they could reform a tag team, since the WWF is running a bit low on teams. Look who they have been using lately, Brood Vs. Hardy Boyz and Acolytes have been tied up just being Taker lackies in the Corporate Ministry, and then the only other team has been D-Lo Brown and Mark Henry, but they’ve been tied up with GTV that one time, and now Henry has been in Body Slamming Matches. So it looks as those these two will be like X-Pac and Road Dogg. Friends but not tagging. Speaking of X-Pac, what is up with Kane and him? That tag team was actually working well, but it looks as though it’s broken up now, with Undertaker coming out on Heat and saving his younger brother from Big Show.

Now, finally Chris Jericho has signed with the WWF. My dream has finally come true, hopefully I will get to see my favorite two wrestlers square off, which would be a Jericho Vs. HHH feud. All I can say is, the WWF has laid out the floor plan for the company’s main event situation for quite some time now, Austin can only go so far, maybe two to three more years on top before he slowly fades away, there after Jericho will have been in the WWF for a few years and will have experienced some important feud or title, and if he likes it he can re-sign and carry the WWF into the first decade of the millennium, after that he could probably go at it still, but if he doesn’t that’s all right.

That female on RAW with Ivory was a former WCW/WWF females wrestler, Malia Hosaka. It’s good to see the WWF is serious now about the Women’s division and is bringing in some real talent, and not just another women to flaunt around. Look at Ivory, when she first came in, she was just "entertainment" for Mark Henry, but now has the WWF Women’s Championship. She’s a pretty solid worker in the ring, not too bad looking, and she can work the mic pretty well too. Now that’s a full package, that the WWF should be looking for. Only other woman the WWF has like that is Tori, but she hasn’t been seen recently, but hopefully will be back soon. I don’t really know is Malia is good on the mic, but if she’s not, that’s okay, since the Women don’t get mic time anyway. Now onto the poll. I got a lot of responses and I’d like to thank everyone who voted. The following are some of the responses from you, the readers.

I would have to say Shane Douglas. He's the biggest free agent right now and I would pool all my money to get him in. He would be the biggest name, biggest draw, and most likely to boost up ratings out of all the free agents. And he would be an automatic main eventer if used right.

Who would I get to help WCW beef up their image to fit into today's market? The answer is, obviously, Sunny.  Tammy Sytch is one of the hottest talents (and women) around, is known to work her ass off, is
perfect for getting the target audience (guys who like sex and/or violence) and has none of the annoying pending lawsuits or contractual surprises one would be pestered by if one hired, say, Mrs. Rena "Sable" Mero.

Well, if you want a smart ass who could really stick it to the old guys in  the new wcw angle i couldnt come up with a better guy than rob van dam. he could work the mike WAY!!!!! better than benoit, malenko, saturn, or bagwell and in the ring he would wrestle circles around Flair, Piper or DDP.

Thanks to everyone who sent theirs in. Now, my choice would have been Vader. He’d be a good solid main event, he’s pretty professional, not too many bad rumors about him, and the bookers could turn Hogan face and have Hogan Vs. Vader if they wanted to.

Well, that’s it for last week’s poll, now for this week’s poll. "Due to the latest Ross Report, it seems a few wrestlers will be canned from the WWF soon, if you were in charge of firing four wrestlers, to make way for Jericho and the other new talent arriving who would the four wrestlers be??" Remember your trying to trim the fat on the roster. You want to get rid of people that just aren’t doing it in the ring right now, or aren’t getting over with the fans or the wrestlers, and bookers backstage. Send your choices to [email protected] have a nice night everyone and thanks for reading.
