Thought you guys might find it interesting is all. Someone had asked IS there a "6th sense" and if so-- does it relate to us and our "partnership in the dance"(for you non-horsey friends, that is the ultimate goal for the basic premise of Dressage-- creating and experiencing a full partnership, which enables one to "dance" with your equine partner) For you horsey buddies(on AOL) go to the DEBATE folder and chime in! I think I ruffled some feathers with a couple other posts over the last couple of days people's ideas toooooo. I think it is related to the ability to use one's given mental/physiological/psychological talents in ways that are beyond the "norm".  I have done thesis papers on parapsychology-- and I believe that our minds are capable of MUCH more than is generally acknowledged. Those that have the ability to tap into it do so in a variety of ways. I think that "animal people" are tapping into the ability to communicate a bit deeper with animals.  There are those who have a 6th sense concerning events or happenings. I KNOW PERSONALLY people who are NEVER wrong when they get "a feeling" about somone- often someone they have not talked to or heard from in years. Things happen. To assume that we know everything there is to know, and understand all that is out there is beyond ridiculous, and is verging on pompous arrogance(not anyone in particular-- just a general statement)-- and we know there are those out there who do not believe in anything they do not already know. We can all list MANY things that "exist" today that were scoffed at even 30 years ago(for example, this online community's existance...)  I feel very strongly that I can and do connect with animals in a way that goes beyond "standard". It is my particular talent(shrug)-- there are areas where I am lacking too.. it is not a "better than" thing-- it is just that THIS is the area where my 6th sense functions- it is not easy to explain, but most of you probably understand-- you would not BE horse people if you didn't have it to some degree. For example, I can NOT ride a friend's lesson horse worth a DARN-- he is so pushbutton he does courses by HIMSELF, complete with proper lead changes-- beginners can take him over jumps correctly.. when I ride him all i feel is how much he hates this-- and I can not jump him-- i can't get past that. On the other hand-- my first jumping lesson,(ever)- they gave me the GREEN percheron, who had never seen jumps either,(other than fallen trees in the woods)- and we did the whole course of 2'9 fences 3 times. We understood each other- and were having fun. The 6th sense as it pertains to partnership in the dance involves the ability to intuitively FEEL in concert with what your horse is feeling- that partnership extends beyond mere physical, and into a realm I do not have a name for-- it doesn't "exist" yet And a response to my writing.... from a fellow animal lover
