.The band officially
started in the fall of 2000. It was Mark and Steven's idea
to start a band. At that time, Mike Marcotte was in grade
7, and Mark Turh, Marc Tkachuck, and Steven Blehm were all
in grade 8 at St.Dominic Savio School. Mark and Steve had
it all planned out, Mark on guitar and Steven on drums. Then
one of their friends Marshall Finch wanted to join the band
and play guitar as well. Then they finally decided that they
should get Marc to play guitar. So, Mark and Marshal argued
about who would play the bass guitar in the band, Mark ended
up playing bass because he learned it faster then Marshall.
After that, they started searching for a singer. Marshall
tried out and failed horribly, and then a kid named Andrew
Butzealarr tried and was all right but not the greatest, but
still ways better the Marshall. The last person to try out
was Mike; he was a great singer, so they went with him. At
the time, Mike did not know how to play a musical instrument
all he did was sing. All we needed was a name; it was both
of the marks idea to call our selves the FunboYz, so the name
stuck. The first couple of songs we did were easy and simple
such as “All the Small Things - Blink 182, and Brain
Stew - Green Day. We played at school dances and pep rallies.
The first time the band ever played was at the boys football
pep rally where Mike being the stud he is, dedicated the first
song they ever did to a girl he liked at the time, Cody Lloyd.
They did not finish the whole song, we got threw half of the
song and stop because our music teacher at the time "
The all mighty Mr. Brown" said it would sound better
if we just played the part we knew and not screw up on the
part we didn't no. As the months went by it came to Christmas
holidays, so the band took a 2-week holiday form each other.
When they have all returned they had discovered that Mike
new how to play the electric guitar. So now, the band had
two guitar players, a drummer, a bass player, and a singer.
After Christmas, they played only three more times before
school was out. At the schools talent show where we played,
First Date- Blink 182, and Back in Black- Ac/Dc. The second
time was at the grade 8-grad celebration where they played,
The Middle- Jimmy eat world. The last time at St. Dominic
Savio was at a year-end family b.b.q dance where we played
The Middle for the last time and we played Dammit- Blink 182.
That was it for the Funboyz; everyone went to high school
and left Mike at St. Dominic Savio. Everyone knew we would
start the band again as soon as I got to high school. In the
middle of the year, there was a pep rally at Leboldus; Marshall
being a retarded homosexual entered the band in to a Battle
of The Bands. The guys thought they were screwed because they
did not have a singer. At the time, Mark gave up Bass guitar
and learned how to play electric guitar, so the band did not
have a singer or bass player. One night Mike phoned up Mark
to see what was going down for the weekend and how school
was going. Mark told him that Marshall entered them into the
schools Battle of The Bands with out any of the guys knowing.
Therefore, Mike said we should get down to it and start practising
for it. They practised a few new songs like Tush - ZzTop,
Shook Me All Night Long - Ac/Dc, and Hotel Room – Mest.
The songs we picked for the pep rally were Tush by Zz Top
and Hotel Room by Mest. We competed against three other bands,
a teacher band, a grade 12 band and a band called To the Point
(they had a record deal). We all thought it was total bullshit
and unfair, but we would of beat em’ if we rocked harder
and jumped around. We will win next year. We lost and were
bummed about it for a few days but that did not stop us from
becoming better. We decided to change our name from the Funboyz
to something different and new. One day after practise Mike,
Mark and Steve were waiting for a ride home and Mark said
we should think of a different name and Mike was looking around
and pointed at Steven’s winter jacket and it said No
Motion. We thought about that one for a bit then we thought
about the name No eMotion, Steve liked it and so did Mike
and Mark. They told Marc and he agreed. After that, Mike and
Mark started making songs, Mike wrote the lyrics and Mark
and Mike worked on the music. The bands first song is called
Unknown, it is about a relationship Mike had with a girl named
Asja Duffy…she broke his heart. =( That pretty much
sums it up till now, No eMotion is currently working on some
new songs and cover songs also. We plan to make a CD soon
so keep an eye on the site and message board.
