There is darkness inside of everyone, the question is how close to the surface is the darkness to you. For many they believe that the darkness is only with those who do crimes or anything illegal. These people are further from the truth. These people who believe that the Darkness is only for those who do anything illegal are closer to the darkness than they, themselves, realize. Those who committee anything illegal may just be touching something that is evil within themselves, which is not what the Darkness really is.
Evil is not the Darkness. Many people cannot tell the difference between them however there is a difference. Evil is actually an act that the person doesn't care what may happen during the act to anyone (including themselves). This is why many illegal acts deal with the death of someone.
The Darkness is actually the negative stuff that people feel about themselves, such as self-doubt. The Darkness is more of a combination of emotions than anything else. Many may fear the Darkness however it is harmless unless they let it run their life. The Darkness may crush the dreams of a single person, but it is only because the person doesn't have the confidence in himself or herself to conquer it.
Many corporations may say that the "Darkest Hour" is upon them or others. This only means that the hope for that situation is very small or unseen. The Darkness itself may have started the situation to go bad, however the Darkness itself only gave that situation a small push. The people of the corporation are the ones that are responsible for having their hope disappear. One crisis shouldn't be blamed on the Darkness; it should be actually blamed on the Evil intent that the Darkness put into motion.
The Darkness is more like an instigator. It will start something in motion, and something Evil will take it from there. The Darkness is a fear that someone has deep down, and when it comes to the surface it is something that is Evil in nature that will take it from the Darkness and force it upon that same person. Sort of like a fear of heights. The Darkness will make the person remember that they are afraid of heights, however the thing that is Evil will cause the person to think of situations to get hurt (or die) from heights.
Those who believe that the Darkness is a form of religion such as those who think that they are Vampires or they believe that the Devil is alive, these people are wrong; they are worshiping Evil at its finest. The Darkness may be the reason why there are small fears about those things, however Evil has caused those small fears to grow into something worse. Evil has no boundaries, it has no limits, and many believe that it can't be stopped. With people like that in the world, Evil has a fighting chance to exist; however there is always hope. The Darkness is an instigator, it really doesn't matter whether it is a negative thing it is doing or a positive one. Those who fuel the Evil in things also have a small hope that the Evil will also be stopped; this is also the power of the Darkness.
It doesn't matter to the Darkness itself what side wins, as long as it can still do its job to cause panic. The little bit of panic (gut feelings, or whatever you want to call it) is what keeps the Darkness alive. May it be something Evil or something Good that takes the Darkness a little further doesn't really matter; the Darkness will continue to do what it has done for generations. The Darkness will be the only thing that continues to survive, because the fight between Good and Evil will continue forever.
